ALTO LXI (2012) - From owner's desk

Rate this Entry
I am starting this blog to share my feelings as a owner of a utility car. I would point out my expectations, share my experiences at various points related to my car and evaluate the services received. I hope this will help others as they will know in first hand, what can be expected, especially in Kolkata where service industry is just a mess.

JOURNEY BEGINS!

The starting days were very appreciable for my ALTO booking, as the sales executive from Mohan Motors was continuously in touch with me, and visiting my home regularly (@prospect owner: Visit the showrooms of multiple dealers direclty). He convinced me that they would provide the best deal and no one can match, and I trusted the guy blindly (@prospect owners: never trust any sales person from car dealers). He even tipped me ways, if in case the payment gets delayed by few days. I had only contacted Dewaars Garage and got a quote, and the quote from them is higher than Mohan Motors. But the sales person from Dewaars told that they will provide better deal than Mohan Motors!!! Hey boss, please give your best quote first, and don't let your chance go to someone else's hand! We are here to buy cars, don't make this some vegetable or fish market, so give your best quote first time. (@prospect owners: This is worse than fish market, you have to super bargainer. You will feel stupid when you will find another person got better discount, more free accessories for the same product, like my case). During the time of booking process, the sales person from Mohan Motors just confirms to all queries on accessories that comes along with car (ALTO LXI model) like body color bumper, orvm on both sides, rear parcel tray. He also confirms to additional free accessories from dealer's end like foot mat, mud guard, steering cover, side guards. I got impressed and did the booking, only to find later non of the above comes along with the car and not all promised accessories will be delivered! By this time, I had paid half of the vehicle price. I and Saif (my colleague) almost quarreled to get the confirmed items. They gave me parcel tray and both side orvm but not the body color bumper. Later they tried to trick me saying that they had promised to give door guards and not side guards, which I did not agree as I explained the item clearly to the sales executive during my booking and got the door side guards. The dealers would act as they are spending from their pockets for my car. (@prospect buyer: Please insist on seeing the actual model and identify the differences with brochure, else you can get a shock. YES, the car manufacturer of MARUTI SUZUKI's stature also cheats their customers. The latest brochure of ALTO still shows left side door key hole, but this is not present in actual, even though it is not a accessory that one can fit). During my initial talk to the in charge at the accessories dept, he said that if I order about 20K+ accessories, then they would provide some kind of discount, which never came even after my purchase touched the figure.

I will share my pre-inspection and delivery experience later....

One thing I noticed during my purchase process with Mohan Motors, it is sale that matters for them. They seldom bother what customer satisfaction is. I do not know about other dealers but that the way it is in Kolkata at least. But, I must confess that they are never tiring of calling you SIR!

I had told the sales executive that I would like to do a pre-inspection of the car before it goes for registration. On May 25, 2012 I called the sales executive to confirm that if it could be done on May 26, 2012, again he said YES, they could arrange it on the said date. On this day I again confirmed with him the assurances he gave for accessories. On May 26, 2012 I called the sales executive to check with the schedule only to find that he could not arrange for the inspection. I had a feeling at that time that it is fruitless to communicate with the sales executive any further as things are not working with him and got a bit annoyed. I called his senior, a ASM, who informed that it is not possible to arrange for pre-inspection within 1 day notice, and her junior commitment was incorrect! Then I informed her all the assurances he made to me during his sales talk. She said all the items mentioned as coming with Alto LXI are wrong (body color bumper, both side ORVM (K10 look alike), parcel tray) and had to be ordered separately!!! I know by then that I had made a mistake by not checking with other dealers. Then I asked her when can she arrange the car for pre-inspection, she confirmed me 29th May 2012 (Tuesday). You might be curious why I am so pressing on the dates? My office is about 25+ KM away from home and public conveyance is not good at all. I always traveled with my TATA INDICA (sold at that time), and now going by bike that is very risky. Also my family was spending their holidays at my inlaws and wanted to bring them back in my new car.

On Tuesday, I find that the car is still not coming and inspection can be arranged on 30-05-2012 (Wed)! So, the words of Sales Executive cannot be trusted, now the words of ASM also failing, what a dealer! Anyways, on Wednesday I received a call that the car had arrived. I and my colleague went for the pre-delivery inspection. They took me to their ware house, the car was placed at the back row with 10 inches space on front, back and right. And 6 inches space on the left side of the car. Now, I think I might had given them a nightmare when I asked for a pre-inspection OR this is first time any customer had asked for it! How can one inspect a car with no space, do I came just to take a look of the car. But, I found my self helpless, we managed to check few things and I was already getting unsatisfied with Mohan Motors and Maruti Suzuki for bad cost cutting. Here I noticed that the child lock hole is empty as no child fitted, even there is a provision. The odometer was already reading 48KM, if would have touched 50 KM, I would have rejected the car! How people say that Mohan is a good dealer when one cannot trust their executives' word. Nor can they arrange for proper inspection! To them pre-inspection is just a sentence, they do not know the meaning.

Me and my colleague came back to the showroom and inquired what they going to do with the promises made. Saif even called the manager and asked her to cancel the booking and refund the money, but I was not that aggressive and we had some exchange of words. The dealer agreed to provide the parcel tray and the ORVMs, but was asking additional 4K to get body color bumper. I accepted without body color bumper and challenged them that I could get that done dito from outside within 2K and they are just robbing customers. By this time I had visited the showroom 4 times. And every time I ask for receipts of the payments made, they say either someone is not present, or the file is not there. They could not provide me all the papers at one go, there would be some paper missing all the time and you have to point out the missing item. Isn't there a file where all the documents for the sale to be kept? When we came back from inspection, they handed over a blank paper to authorize proceed of registration. They don't even have a typed form! They also gave me a piece of torn paper (a local grocery shop uses a better paper cutting) where they listed the items they will be providing me along with car and that was signed by some senior.

Coming back from showroom I once again reminded them that I need to car before Jun 08, 2012 as I would travelling out of town on Jun 09, 2012 with my new car and they should the registration process accordingly. The ASM promised again that they will take care of it. Another promise that failed later, I got the delivery of the car on June 14 and I wish of bring back my family with my new car remained unfulfilled!!!
