How do you say poverty specification, i.e. the lowest possible specification of a car in Chinese? Well you call it 乞丐版 (Qi Gai Ban) which translates into beggar edition. The X1 already weighs in at under 300,000RMB for the base model in rear wheel drive model only, the 2.0T jumps in at 360,000RMB but all come with automatic gearboxes as standard, for those that have a love of shifting their own cogs they will have to wait until later this year when BMW launch a manual version, aka the Beggar Version.

So what’s missing? The GPS/DVD system has gone, as has the obvious automatic gearbox which has been replaced with a six speed manual. The headlights have been changed for lesser versions and the headlight washing facility has been removed (does anyone use this anyway?)
Manuals only seem to come on base models in the Chinese market. Try to buy a top of the line sedan with a decent turbo or V6 engine and you are looking at slush boxes exclusively, and if you do get a manual, you can bet that it will only be on the bottom of the range model.
So when will the X1 with basically all options deleted hit the market? Second half the year. And how much? We can guess at 260,000RMB to 270,000RMB. Is that expensive for a small SUV? Yes.

Hi All,

First of all apologies for not posting this before. I have been closely following news on Ertiga for quite sometime now. It all started when I started getting back pain driving my Palio :rolleyes:(which is no longer mine now). I had shortlisted the following cars:

* Ertiga
* Mini Xylo
* Ecosport
* Duster

But I was keen on getting Ertiga since I had a hard time service my palio. So my first priority was Service and second one being seating posture. In the meantime I tried Sx4 but decided not to go for that since Ertiga launch was nearby. I have been in contact with a Sales Executive 2 Popular for quite sometime and he use to updated me on the status. Sometime early march I got a call from him saying that the booking would soon be open. I insisted on seeing the car and TD-ing it before booking. So soon after the car was launched, (on 12th April), the Sales Executive called me for seeing the car. They had only a Zxi and the car was not yet ready for TD since the official launch in Popular 16th. Saw the vehicle with my family and decided to go ahead and book it. The booking amount was 50k. Details of the vehicle:

* VDI
* Colour - Granite Grey
* Expected Delivery - End of May

After about a week after booking, the Sales Executive called me from near my office for a TD. This was around 1:15. By the time the car arrived, it was 1:30 and had a call at 2:00 :( So in a hurry took a quick 5 mins TD. Could not gather much information on the vehicle during the TD. The executive promised me a detailed TD on the weekend. So on Saturday I went to the showroom to take a detailed TD. Few things I could gather from my TD (not an expert in Car review so experts apologies).

* Unlike my Palio (which had the same engine), the car doesn't want to move when you release the clutch. Compared to Palio which is like having a Raging bull tied inside the bonnet ready to jump as soon as you release the clutch).
* Gears are not that slick.
* Lowers gears are short requiring frequent gear changes
* The power is low below 2000 rpm.
* Once you cross 2000 rpm the Ertiga is a different animal. Unless you drive the engine to its upper threshold, you will hardly hear the engine sound.
* All the reviews I had read so far states that the 1.3l is not enough for a car of this big of a size. But personally I didnt feel so (provided you drive on the correct gear and try and maintain around 2000 rpm).
* MSIL did a very good job in insulating the firewall, the car in idle is almost quite compared to other Diesels.
* Stereo is ok but do expect things to rattle around if you keep the Bass Boost above 0db. For me it definitely requires an upgrade :).
* Some reviews point out to the lack of space in the 3rd row. IMO the seats are good for average size adult (upto to 5'6") above that it would be tight fit.
* The best thing about the vehicle is the ease at which you can ingress. Its not as tall as an SUV nor it is low as sedans.
* The car does have a small body roll around corners and its worst felt in the last row. Not as bad as SUVs I guess.
* The car feels airy thanks to its Beige interiors (on the downside its would be a nightmare to keep it clear).

And now back to the story.....

However I kept on pushing for an earlier delivery. He said he will see what can be done. By end of April I got a call from him saying that the car was on its way to their stock yard and expected to arrive by 10th May:banana-ride:. So next thing is arranging finance. Dealing with bank was easier since my Mother is retd Bank employee. To generate Invoice I had to pay an additional 1l. Arranged for that and paid it. On 8th May I called the Sales Executive and to my surprise he said the car is already in their Stock yard. So immediately tried to arrange for seeing the vehicle. To my disappointment the Sales guy could not come that day the security guy was not ready to show the car in-spite of giving him the chassis number. So it was next day when I got to see our Ash for the first time. Was very happy to see the car in flesh for the first time. Did a quick inspection to check for any damages etc. By the Popular staff was getting ready to take the car to the showroom to prepare it for registration the next day (10th). The registration went smooth, the car was ready by Friday noon but couldnt take it because I had truck loads of work to finish :(. So finally on Saturday morning by around 12 finally got our ash home.

Selling my sparingly Kenwood KOS-A300.

A wonderful unit to get USB, iPod, Zune and Bluetooth (external adapter required) support with your old school audiophile HU's , High end modern DSP units or the bare bones OE HU.

Plays WAV files from USB which is a big plus and is controlled from a cool looking iDrive replica jog dial which is very easy and fun to use as well.

I have all the installation mounts, accessories, wiring harness, extension cables, original box with me.

The screen has no scratches at all on it since the protective plastic sheet was never removed from it. The Jog Dial/Controller is again in perfect cosmetic and operational condition. Colors of both can be customized to match your interior lights.

Will try to post the pictures by evening or tomorrow.

A new unit will currently cost you 6k.

I am selling mine for INR 3500.

*** I have the Gladen Zero series 2ch 0.75m RCA cable as well which I used with this unit which is now spare and not required. In case you wish to get that as well, please let me know but charges for it will be extra. It is of corse a very high quality cable and will connect the KOS unit to your HU ***

Packaging will of corse be safer than a bomb shelter :)
