This query is more for my colleague. He is planning to drive from Chennai to Masinagudi on his Etios-P along with his family. He wants to know the best possible shortest and safest route.

- I saw that the usual way is via SLM-CBE-OOTY or Via Mysore. He wants to avoid hill travel via ooty and is wanting to find out if there is a way to bypass that.
- Another way I presume is via bhavani-Satyamangalam-Mysore-Masinagudi but need to know the road conditions and safety.

I'm planning to take my parents to some place during the timeframe of Jun 10-Jun 12.

3 possible options that I could think of.

1. Munnar:- Not very sure as monsoons would have started and it may be raining nonstop.

2. Kanyakumari:- Is it possible to do it in 3 days? Some people say its 7 hrs drive to Kanyakumari now. Is that right? I checked the bus timings at it comes to 14 hrs.

3. Murudeshwara :- This is fallback plan. If nothing else materializes, I plan to drive to Murudeshwara.


What would you guys suggest?

What is the best & safe route to Calicut from Bangalore.
I will be doing this the coming weekend.

Want to avoid the Mysore road for multiple reasons like traffic, lot of speed breakers, vehicles coming in opposite direction, strikes & so on.
Recently heard that the Bangalore - Kanakapura - Malavalli - Kollegal- Chamarajanagara - Gundlupet route is in good shape. How safe is that route for early morning/night travel?
Anyway will be leaving Bangalore by 04:30/05:00am but return journey might be around 06:00-10:00pm through that stretch.

megazoid, Can you please through more light into this.
Also, would like to hear from you regarding the Gundlupet - Calicut stretch.

May 6th - check out valparai in the afternoon.
May 6th - Check in top-slip in the evening
May 7th - elephant safari in the morning and leave top-slip in the evening.
May 7th - Check in a hotel in coimbatore ( not yet booked / need a decent hotel near black thunder )
May 8th - Black thunder water park
May 9th - depart for tuticorin .

I have booked accomodation in valparai and top-slip via phone.

Now for top- slip i have to go to pollachi forest office and pay the money for the acomodation before going up to top-slip. As i will be coming down from valparai, will it be an unnecessary trip to pollachi and back up again to top-slip.

Or should i go to pollachi on the 3rd itself before reaching valparai and book the room for top-slip. In this way i can go directly from valparai to top-slip.
