Help with luggage weight issues (OHC)

I needed to buy some tiles and transport them to Coorg, and thought they would fit into the OHC. Fit they do, but they weigh some 500kgs and have had to distribute them all over the seats, boot and yet the rear body panel is just about an inch above the tyres. There does seem to be some margin wrt the tyre-well but in the short drive from the tiles store to home, I needed to take it real real slow over speedbreakers, else heard a minor thud (and possible some scraping as the wheel touched?).

Qn: safe to drive it like this to Coorg ? Its about 300kms one way, with about 25kms of rough roads. Is 500 kgs (plus me driving) too much for the car as a one off ?

Alternatively, if someone with a Bolero wants to drive an OHC for a weekend and takes reasonable care of it, a swap sounds like a decent solution

Finally : does anyone know if 207s are available for self drive rentals ? I think I'll need one of those when I can afford it.

Sameer, have you tried loading the tiles with the rear seat folded down flat (assuming that is possible)?

1 driver + 500 kg of load should be par for the course.

Thanks Hrishi. Well, the tiles will actually all fit inside the boot (its pretty huge) but the weight will all be on the rear and the tyres would scrape for sure. In any case, the seat does not fold, etc. These are the times when I wish I had a Safari/207 etc

You need to distribute the weight for sure. For now, I would recommend half in the boot, the rest in the rear footwell and rear seats. If your rear seat was foldable, it would have been pretty easy.

This would be a piece of cake for an SUV

with about 25kms of rough roads
That 25kms of rough roads is really rough now (OTR kinds ) and its uphill ?, you are better off with Jeep/207.

I say dont do it in the car. Similar stunts have earlier cost me more $$ than what I have saved on a cab etc.

Sameer, better drop the idea of taking the tiles in the OHC. Like Medappa pointed out, roads in that side are in pretty bad shape last I heard from a friend who came back from Coorg recently.

Thanks guys. An offer of a Mahindra to do a trip to Coorg has been accepted with heartfelt thanks and relief, and the City will be spared
