I will keep a sample in my car, will give it you when we meet next, AFAIK VAG also use the same design in one of their cars and there is another car manufacturer as well who uses this. The sample which I have is the ATE brand which was used as a test mule in one of the Punto's and has the VAG logo on it

Update after a long gap- The mile munching has come down considerably over the last 6 months thanks to the Rapid being in the limelight of things and the car crossed 50K kms sometime back and has been running strong, The Punto has been with me for the past 26 months and the clutch still feels like day 1 . The 45k kms service was ticked off as well and the service experience was quite pleasant, replaced a couple of parts as preventative maintenance. The car would be going through a couple of upgrades in the month of December, upgrades planned are ICE and hopefully a remap.

ODO shot as of this evening

I have been offline for sometime and haven't had the chance to update this thread. So here goes the update

The Punto has been at the service center for the last couple of weeks due to hydrolock and the engine was brought back to life earlier today in the afternoon, the car went through a street which was flooded due to rains in Bangalore and the water level which was running board high entered the engine through the air filter (don't know how that happened). The amount of water which got sucked in was unbelievable and it was an instant stall while i was trying to shift into first. The first thing that hit me was do not crank, I pulled the car aside and had it picked up next day using the Fiat Roadside assistance (which I must say was the best thing I could opt for during the purchase of the car), the car was towed to the ASS and after initial inspection was informed that worst to worst scenario is a half block engine change. I was confident that the damage would not be to such and extent and in the meanwhile raised a claim with my insurance.

Couple of days into the inspection, the SA told me that the car has taken too much of water and the C-rod could possibly be bent and showed me the pistons which had water all over them.

I was confident that the C-rod couldn't have been damaged and piyush7243 also advised the same, so after a long discussion with the SA I told them to get the head inspected and have the engine flushed and refitted to fire it up.

The SA assembled the engine back and replaced the piston rings, clutch assembly, tensioner for the timing chain and gaskets. The injectors were sent to bosch for reconditioning and were installed back. The engine was fired up and the SA said its all good to go. The general service for 60k kms has also been looked after since the car was at 60k and was due for service.

I will be taking a long test drive tomorrow to check for any other faults.. Will update once I take delivery from ASS

this is one of the rare hydrolock incident heared in punto. waterlevel inside is seriously high and Good that damages are limited and car is back.

Reviving this thread as I have possession of the car once again, I know I haven't updated this thread in ages but here is the update, the current ODO stands at 120k and was being used by my cousin until recently. He had a fuss free time with it and was maintaining the vehicle with a trusted FNG, timing and clutch was changed at 100k as preventative maintenance. I am yet to find any issues other than the under-powered feeling as I got used to some better FCA product. Will try to keep this thread updated in the future

So after 6 years of ownership and 122k kms, I sold the car with a heavy heart last month. The car had zero issues and zero rattle, gotta hand it to fiat for the build quality. My driving style has changed over the years and the Punto was just not enough and I decided on an upgrade (still confused on what I need).

Some stats/positives and negatives that I could remember-
      1. Last average mileage was 15kmpl on highways and 17kmpl in the city, the highest recorded was 32kmpl between Ahmedabad and Bhuj, top speed achieved was 168kmph gps.
      2. Three sets of tyres consumed, first one was OEM JK Tornado's and the next 2 were GY Eagle F1's, were changed at 23k and 68k and the car was due for a change in the next 3k kms.
      3. Clutch and timing was changed at 100k both still had life left, the car survived a hydro-lock incident.
      4. FIAT ASS experience was a mixed bag and we could never figure out the reason behind the battery drain which plagued the car since day 1.
      5. The car visited more than 15 states across India excluding the north eastern states, the longest non stop drive was from Bangalore to Sagar MP approx. 1500kms

Overall experience was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the car, sad that Fiat couldn't sell their cars but sold a shit load of engines making this gem the national engine.

A parting shot and end of a saga
