The saturday that went by, we were invited for lunch by a friend of ours at a place called Tampere. It is a 3 hr drive from
Vaasa. We started out in the morning..thought we'd spend sometime with my friends family, have an early lunch and drive back soon.
But then, when we stopped over for a coffee midway at a Rest area, these vehicles started rolling in..
I was left gaping at these extreme 4WD's for a while and then, spoke to one of the chaps about the Trail location. It was in a Town called Nokia..some 15 kms further from Tampere.
I checked if I could drive up to the trail in my 2wd sedan..none were even sure of the location..forget the road. Took the risk and followed them to the trail. I hoped for it to be exciting considered the extreme mods on these 4X4's.
A short drive later, we indeed reached the location and I joined the line of people waiting to enter..It only got more exciting seeing these beasts. My doubt of reaching the start of the trail washed away when I saw a Porsche 911 Turbo in the line a few cars behind me.
But then, we then realized that more than half were yet to come and the event start was atleast 1.5 hrs away. Since we now knew the location, we thought we'd drive back to Tampere and finish a quick lunch and get back to the trail..it was a day long event anyway.
We then turned around and drove back, had lunch and planned my drive back only to realize, a snow storm had started. Driving conditions turned terrible. Visibility was down to 30 ft. It was only going to be more risky driving back to Vaasa. We then, decided to drive back straight to Vaasa.
Did not go back to the Trail. Sad but true.
The good news is, I now know an Off Road club and will now get intimated about the next off road events.
Will go for sure. Report will follow.
Godfather, its Drool time now.
