It would be awesome if you can find an Sti version here in India.

I am responsible for what I say; not what you understand.
007 Important areas to look at would be the suspension, specially the self leveling rear struts (60k for a pair).
Worn and noisy rear wheel bearings and a worn clutch (juddering) are other possible issues. Also look out for signs of possible overheating in the past, the oem thermostats are known to fail causing damaged radiators and head gaskets. Oversize tyres can also cause power steering pump and rack failures. Original parts cost a bomb and worth the extra money in thelong run to buy a well kept car with FSH.
Happy hunting!

thanks a ton gotzuk!
I figured that if I ever faced any suspension related issues, I would hit up memo45_m for Ironman replacements.
other than that, how hard are original parts to source? I understand they will be expensive, but other than that, is international availability abundant or scarce?
according to mclaren1885's SA, this car in question supposedly has a full service history and the owner has maintained it impeccably. I will know more come Wednesday.
by the way, what is the true FE on this thing when driven hard and / or gently?
Yes aftermarket will be a much cheaper option. Parts can either be ordered through the authorised Chevy stealership or through the open market parts dealer dealing in imported car parts. Prices are mostly sky high, from 72k for the windscreen to 197 bucks for ONE fuel injector O-ring
International parts availability is abundant, though OEM Subaru prices can tend be a bit steep sometimes. Logon to subaruforester.org, some great bargains can be found in the classified section and some great info too. Also look at the Aussie Subaru forums.
Forester shares the platform with the Impreza WRX ( not the regular poverty pack version) and it translates into a fine handling car.
In the past 1.5 years that I have had the car I have constantly got around 9-10 kmpl and never below 7.

I got inspired reading about your debacles in the vtec world and got one for myself. The vtec wagon is a daily driver and the boxer wagon has been relegated to being a project car. Wagons FTW!
