Ford Ikon Tyre/Alloys Upgrade Options

Ikon: Stock size is 175/70 R13. It comes with MRF ZVTS. The ZVTS is noisy, but reasonably comfortable. It is of course long lasting and very robust. This is generally a tubetype tyre. If you need to change, then you can go in for XM1+, A drive, ER 60, Acelere of the same size.

If you upsize to 14", then you can go in for 175/65 R14, though why someone would do that is beyond belief. If you go to 14", then please get at least 185/60 R14. XM1+, ES100s, PP2s, Aceleres.

For the Ikon, you cannot fit 195/60 R14. There will be some scraping on the inside of the wheel arch.

hey nikhil,

ive jus upsized my ikon 1.6's tyre. i moved from the stock 175/65 R14 ZVTS to 195/ 60 R14 as the difference was jus about 1%. i got a set of Yoko ES 100s. great tyre and i do like the improved ride, but i jus saw your post which said 195 60 is not recommended on the Ikon as it will scrape on the inside.

i donot really get any noise from the tyre, but will double check. is it better i get them changed?

Generally, with the Ikon, what we have seen is that the insides of the wheel arch end up scraping the tyre on full load.

It's better you get 185/60 R14s Yoko ES100s.

Can you please provide the stock size? I am under the impression that Ford Ikon has 175/65 R14 tyres on R14 x 5.5 J rims.

Sorry. Never mind. I just checked. The stock tyre is 175/70 R13. 5j would suffice I guess. Regarding tires, you can go for Bridgestone Turanza ER60 or Michelin XM1+. I am using Turanza ER60 and am quite satisfied with them.

If you are planning to continue with the stock steel rims, No need to be worried about that. I am sure stock would be R13* 5j. Are you going alloy wheels with the tyre change? R13 * 5.5j would also be fine with Ford Ikon.

Alloys now. Tubeless after 3 - 4 months. That's the plan. But then hvkumar is clear that alloys is a waste of money.

I saw Yokohama A Drive & Bridgestone ER60

Hey Bro,

I am not a Tyre Expert.... however I am running on Yoko A drive in my Ford Ikon for past 1.5 years with no problem (touch wood).. Till date I have not got any puncture. The road noise is very low AFAIK. Grip was really good (Reason, it saved my life couple of times in the NH while breaking hard)... both wet & dry. (You might feel a wobble when you hit a stale water though in high speed - read 120km/hr).. handling became very light and the ride comfort too increased. All I am telling this coz I was running on the stock - MRF for 3 yrs and I know the difference once I changed to YOKO.

The above are purely my opinion or hands on experience I have, so tyre gurus might give a different view from the above. So choose wise... also I was suggested to check Hankook which is very good.. by our Tyre gurus...

My PP2s have served me well for nearly 40k KMs and have now started showing signs of aging. Were PP2s still available, I'd go for another set without a second thought. The ride quality and braking improved considerably and I just had 1 puncture in the initial 30k KMs of use.

The car is Ikon and the required size is 185-60-R14. I am mainly looking for Good braking performance & durability over comfort & noise. Please help me with some suggestions.
