Rahul, Ripper - Nayak is my good friend and I have suggested him to go for OWS turbo racing oil. Do you know if they will deliver it to Udupi if we order over the phone? And what other stuff needs to be bought if shifting to synthetic from mineral (like flush etc).

Do we contact Petes or Speedworks for OWS products?

Nayak - Time to start a thread on your Peted Swift

My verna crdi needs 5.3 litres of engine oil. Last time i used the HX6 CH4 15W-40 rated oil from Shell.
This time I am shifting to the CI4 rated Rimula r4 15w-40 from Shell. Since I still hve half litre left of the old oil, is it ok to mix with 5 litres of the new oil? Or should I pick up an extra litre of the R4 ? Does mixing different oils have an issue give problems to the engine?

hm, I routinely do this, without anything going bad, yet. But I guess, only testing at a proper facility can tell you if there is really anything bad with mixing two specific brands of oils? And remember, that answer will only be with respect to those specific brands, there can never be one single authentic answer for mixing any two or more brands of oils.

Ps. I always mix a little bit(like 300 ml, for 5 liters of synthetic) of mineral oil when using synthetic oils meant for petrols in my diesel car.

Its Ok for a small quantity as both are of same grade.
But make sure to top up the oil after some time.. say 2~3 months.

Thanks for the replies folks. I picked up a 5 litre can of rimula r4 at Shell yesterday for 1300 bucks. Will top up the balance using the hx6.
For the chennai guys - I checked the shell on omr, and the shell near kasi theatre. Neither of them had even heard of the R4 or the HX6. Ultimately picked it up at the pallikaranai branch. THey seem to be well stocked up on all the oils. So anyone looking for shell oil in chennai can head there.

As you can see only API SJ, SL and SM are currently valid grades oils. Even SJ I hear is obsolescent! See how many of our 'great' PSUs are making currently valid oils? I do hear that Hyundai GO and since recently MGO from them are SJ! They may not even recognise SL and SM if they show up under their snooty noses in a ties and tails!
