Toyota Etios diesel in the works?

Well, it is possible. Automobile blogs in India have been abuzz with the news that there will be a diesel version of the Toyota Etios when the car is launched in India.A diesel version of any car makes sense in India. We are totally in love with diesels. And if Toyota decides to launch the Etios with a diesel engine, it would be even more popular. It is Toyota – we trust them blindly anyway, and if they give us a diesel engine, we would happily plonk down the extra Rs 75,000 and buy that. This is not verified as there is no press statement from Toyota also.

Toyota suspends booking of Fortuner in India

Japanese auto giant Toyota said it has suspended bookings for its sports utility vehicle Fortuner till July in India in order to clear backlog of bookings. The move comes at a time when the company's Indian subsidiary Toyota Kirloskar Motor is undertaking an exercise to change faulty brake kits of the vehicle following complaints from 220 customers. The average waiting period for the SUV Fortuner is around six months and so they have closed bookings as they didn't want customers to wait. They will re-start bookings in June -July once we are able to clear the backlog. The company said its suspension of bookings will continue until the time when the waiting period comes down to three months. As of date the company has pending order of over 6,000 units. TKM also said it is rectifying brake problems on the vehicle based on customer feedback on a case-to-case basis as some of the customers, especially those who shift from sedans and MUVs to the Fortuner, a four wheel drive, may feel the brakes to be a little different because the actual performance will be a different from what they may be used to.

Tyre majors to increase prices by up to 5 pc from May 1

Major tyre manufacturers like JK Tyre and Ceat Ltd on Tuesday said they will go for a price hike of up to five per cent from May 1 to offset an increase in input costs due to the rise in natural rubber prices.
the continuous rise in natural rubber prices in national and international markets in the past few months has put a huge burden on the tyre manufacturers. The 3-5 per cent hike will only partially offset it. they may have to undertake further rounds of price increases in the next month or two. Most of the tyre players had carried out a similar exercise in January, when prices were increased by 2-4 per cent. Apollo Tyre had hiked prices across all product categories by a similar per centage earlier this month.

Mahindra Bolero: Best Selling SUV Award for 4th Successive Y

Mahindra Bolero has created yet another record by being the country’s No. 1 SUV for the 4th year in a row.

The company has sold over 70,000 units of this car which makes it the first SUV in the country to cross this mark.
The Mahindra Bolero continues to create new records and scale greater heights as India’s No. 1 SUV. In fact, the Bolero is a top selling brand in the passenger vehicle segment, excluding small cars. A clear pointer to its immense popularity is that the Bolero was the winner of the Total Customer Satisfaction survey in the SUV/MUV category, conducted by TNS Automotive in 2009.
The car which was launched back in 2000 has evolved keeping in track with the latest features and technologies. In 2007, company launched a refreshed version of the car with bold styling to appeal to the younger market

In September 2008, came the most powerful Bolero with CRDe engine. Moving ahead with green technology, Mahindra introduced Bolero Micro hybrid in October 2008 which increased the cars mileage by reducing fuel wastage.

Global Majors like Mercedes Benz, BMW, Honda, etc have some of the world’s best technologies with them but are unwilling to introduce them in the Indian Automobile Sector because of their high cost, but Ford is all set to bring in Eco-Boost technology in India since the brand sees the need of it in the Indian market.

Government To Encourage Small Electric Cars

Global warning and carbon foot-prints are the hot topic globally these days considering the damage that has already been done to the environment. Countries all over the world are trying to improve on their ecological responsibility and reduce carbon emissions. Automobile Emissions make for the largest part of CO2 emission globally. Any steps taken towards cutting vehicle emissions like implementation of BS4 norms etc will help cut down emissions largely.

The Govt. of India has make a core group of representatives from Road Transport, petroleum, environment and heavy industry ministries and NMCC (national manufacturing and competitiveness council) to come up with a policy suggestion to promote small electric cars in India. The group will find out the ways to encourage Auto Industry to develop and sell small cars which run on battery. The group will also look into ways of encouraging R&D in this field and promote joint ventures for production of Automobile batteries to power electric cars.
