with the civic and the Cruze chewing away its sales, this move looks obvious now. hope they give us a good sporty diesel engine.Originally Posted by [url=http://gearheads.in/post27735.html#p27735
A friend who works at one of the Toyota dealerships in Bangalore just informed me that Toyota is planning to launch a diesel motor for the Altis soon. He has no further confirmed news as of yet about the engine specs.
But is contemplating them running the 1.4ltr mill that sells in the hatch version abroad as it could be underpowered compared to the competition. Mostly the 2L engine putting out 114bhp might make its way into the car. Will update further details as and when I get news from him. Right now all the details are being kept a hush hush at the higher levels.

2004 Suzuki Zen - A G13B eater.
2005 Suzuki Baleno - India's fastest Naturally Aspirated Baleno timed on a drag strip officially!

2011 Chevrolet Cruze - A monster in the making.

honda has been testing a diesel here since long for the accord. they've brought down a Acura TSX , which s nothing but the european accord, in the engine they intend to sell here. the same engine will make its way into the CRV too.Originally Posted by [url=http://gearheads.in/post27762.html#p27762

What exactly is wrong with these guys - the same cars with diesels will set like hot cakes, given our love for diesels? I mean - why take so long so bring in the diesels? They've all kept mum or been testing for donkey's years now.

It was long due!
They should have brought a diesel from the beginning.
Diesel Corolla is a car which appeals to almost every home in our country.
Now, when will we actually see one here?
“I hear and I forget.
I see and I remember.
I do and I understand..”
I'll believe it when I see it.
Honda is working on a diesel mill for the City too. Expect it to appear at the mid life facelift along with the diesel CR-V, Accord and Civic. They are all expected to run the 2.2L i-DTEC motor.
Thou shalt always seek the redline.

Heh, funnily enough, those diesel engines have some sort of VTEC system. Honda doesn't license CRDi tech from anyone. Which is why they are having trouble with our fuel. Their typical "GREEN IS EVERYTHING!" approach has landed them with an overly sensitive system. Modifications have been done and these engines are now undergoing testing. 3L KMs without any problems using the most crappies fuel they can find on our highways. Once that's done, expect them to appear in the market.
On the plus side, that 2.2L motor is a scorcher. 180BHP, 320 ft-lbs of torque.
Thou shalt always seek the redline.
diesels diesels all around????![]()
