      Well they just might have

In all my research there is nothing concrete that talks of any tech upgrade that belies the physics!

The things that can vary is the gas inside and the thickness of the filament. What I have seen is most of these bulbs have a 'tint' on it - largely blue. So I guess its more a question of 'white' light instead of 'more' light.

That said I have seen different bulbs give different results in different vehicles/headlamp assemblies.

The best in my old M800 glass headlamps were the Flosser Bulbs. The same bulb (H4) in my Accent was a compromise .. found Hella the best - followed by Philips Rallye.

Strangely I found everything different - the beam, pattern, throw, scatter etc with different bulbs in the same headlamp. So I doubt if you have a one-product-suits-all fix to this.

I guess it is because the filament placement is different and may be designed to give better throw at certain angle or point or position where they 'compare' with normal bulbs to claim +30% and all. Also gas may allow filament to operate at higher temperature and produce slightly more visible light ? I guess that's why the failure rate is high in these bulbs.

The Item was not delivered on time.. When I checked with seller the said, its sent by post so cannot be tracked and may be lost in transit. So they refunded my money. Ultimately didn't received the bulbs.. Not found any place in Bangalore from where I can purchase the same.. Everyone is offering Night Breaker Plus but I was looking for Night Breaker Unlimited..

As a Physicist I endorse you totally. What is happening is that there is only one way of getting more output at the same wattage, from the same type of bulb (esp incandescent).

Run the filament hotter, and the light will be a bit bluer. Now for this and still get a reasonably long life the gas mixture has to be changed. The exact mixture is a trade secret but what is known is that Argon is replaced by Xenon. The halogen content may also be different. As for the tint in the envelope it is purely marketing.

Would this and possibly better quality filaments be the reason for the increased costs ?.

I was not satisfied with the bulbs on my Polo HL and replaced it with Philips Extreme Vision. Made a noticable difference. Maybe it would be better If I had installed relays and even more powerful bulbs but didn't do it for fear of nullifying warranty.
