Increasing taxation when prices were low is fine, but not now when petroleum has shot up. Also, a Rs.8 per litre difference between MH and DL is crazy.

Our farmers are having bumper sugarcane yields since last few seasons. Domestic sugar companies are also producing lot of sugar. But govt is importing sugar from Pakistan which is adversely affecting our domestic businesses. Check out share prices of sugar mills, most are just about to shut down.

Same game is being played with pulses.
Since agriculture is tax free, bosses of govt are buying pulses at cheap from the local farmers. Then exporting it to their own companies at abroad, then importing back them in India. This game opens doors for the govt to impose double taxation on an item which is tax free. We are mostly buying imported pulses grown in our own country at much higher prices. Check out the price history of pulses in last few years.

But good thing is that nation has developed and average income of Indians has increased multiple folds resulting into boosted purchasing capacity, thus these days we don't bother about such open loots.
