Yeah, range still the biggest concern. Just returned from Jodhpur, Filled the 45 ltr capacity tank in the morning and covered around 700+ kms and came back without bothering about refill in this cashless season. Still some fuel is left in the tank. Can't think of such one day trips in any of the electric car right now. Even highly praised Teslas don't offer that kind of range, not even half of that.

I wonder why they have skipped the hybrid and emphasising more onto fully electric cars. Also what happened to that 100km/ltr efficient prototype VW tested few years ago? That type of things would be ideal for the time being and can fill the gap between fossil fuel driven cars and and fully electric cars.

Sure, you should go ahead and buy Hybrid. I might buy an electric car whenever it is available in my affordability range, still better, GOD willing, probably make one

Probably that emission scandal hit them too hard to omit emission completely all together

In that case Turbo Petrols will never let Hybrids gain ground. Whatever gets bought, gets made. it will keep OEMs and Consumers busy.

Electrics will improve and knock Hybrids out at the tipping point.

Till such time you enjoy your Turbo Petrol.

Now its official, Indian VWs have emission defeat device installed and going through software updates process.

There are some reports by existing VW users that cars have lost bit of power after the software updates.

Volkswagen used a derivative of its defeat device in India: Arai - Livemint

A little over 300,000 cars sold in India are likely to have used this device—a piece of software that allows cars to pass emission control tests by showing much lower levels of pollution during the tests than when they are in actual use.

The company is now in the process of recalling the cars to change this software.

Arai has found the device in almost all VW group models, including Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda cars “wherever EA 189 engines are used”, according to Urdhwareshe.

From 2008 to the end of November 2015, around 198,500 cars from Volkswagen, 88,700 cars from Skoda and 36,500 cars from Audi sold in India were equipped with the EA 189 engine series, which included 1.2-litre, 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engine variants.

Pathetic scene... At least I honestly thought that 'emission defeat device' was only installed in EU versions, since they have stringent emission norms and it's hard to beat them.

However, it looks like they just went ahead with the so called process in almost all their cars and variants which they sold across the globe.

      Such a shame
