      Used 2007 Safari 4x4 EX 3.0 Dicor

After a lot of searching I managed to find a Safari 4x4 3.0 Dicor EX model. It's done 112000 Kms. It's a 2007 model and has original Tata alloys. Vehicle looks in good nick from outside and I will be doing a detailed inspection tomorrow. Any particular problem areas I need to look for? The guy is quoting 3.3 L. How much should I offer if the vehicle is in good condition.

If its in excellent condition, I'll will not pay more than 2.50 for it - 2.75 tops.

I'll consider 3.0 if it comes with a dinner date with Ms.December!

As a Proud II owner of 3.0 VX 4x4 of same model, I feel the price is ok, if These checks are done and your negotiation points would be on!
      1. Engine never bother to look deep dive as none would have opened it and will till 3L kms
      2. Clutch plate and all it's supports like pumps etc (20K)
      3. Battery life ask for a new one if not within 1yr (10k)
      4. Tyre condition (20K)
      5. suspension which is not a major issue can be replaced within(10k)
      6. windshield condition (10k)

I have spun this out into another thread. Let me know if you'd like the title changed into anything more appropriate.

I will look at the timing belt replacement in the records, if it is done in scheduled servicing, i am hopeful that the car would be good enough. But, if it was replaced after it broke, i would avoid it.
Plz note- I am not sure about the timing belt replacement schedule in the 3.0, for 2.2 L Dicor it is done before 60 k or 5-6 years, whichever comes first. The recommended schedule is less than 1 lakh km. It doesnt last that much for sure and many failures are reported in tbhp.

In addition to the points mentioned by Jay_tech, please do check the 4X4 gear box properly (engage / disengage few times) . Also, if possible do a engine compression check at TASS.

      2.2 change is at 105,000 Kms. I change it at 95K +.

I think it is overpriced. As others have mentioned, 2.50 t0 2.75 is more like it. I'm planning to quote 2.00 and see.

Engine sounds good and feels smooth, clutch is not hard, battery is about a year old, tyres have run 25K kms, suspension feels ok and windshield is ok. Only issues are an extremely dirty interior (owner has dogs), rust at one spot on the bonnet and the bottom of the doors.

Hope you are not talking about the Dainik Bhaskar Ms. December.

New thread was not necessary but now that you have already done it let it be.

The owner has all service records fro day one including invoices of every part changed like tyres, battery etc. Has been always serviced at TASS and last service was December 2015.

P3T3R. If the car is in good condition, even 3.3 could be good enough for the deal. The difference between 3.3 and 2.75 is not much, if you think in absolute terms. If condition is good, and no major maintenance is not pending, get it for 3.

If it has rust I will not touch it. Simple!

If the interiors are dirty (dogs or no dogs) then you have to believe the rest of the car is far more neglected! I am not anal about detailing (in fact far from it) - but there is a basic minimum hygiene that any enthusiast will not fall below.

This is sounding lesser and lesser of a deal.

That was my first thought too. But then a neighbour (used car dealer) said it's pretty common on all Tata's in Goa.

Again my thoughts too but then the meticulous record keeping tells a different story. Mechanically the car is far from neglected.

He's far from an enthusiast. He's a retired British guy who's been living in Goa for over 10 years now. Spends most of his time on the beach.

At 3.30 L definitely not. But if I can get it at 1.75 - 2.00 L, it could be a deal. I'll need to paint the bumpers and cladding, touch up the doors and bonnet and do a thorough interior cleaning. Shouldn't cos me more than 20-25K I think
