My experience is limited to the cars I own.

The odd ones (10k, 30k, 50k, etc. intervals) I do as a DIY - oil and filter change, air filter replacement, fluid topups (battery, brake fluid, coolant), brake cleaning and caliper greasing, WA/WB done outside. Costs me about 3.5k-4k and a whole lotta elbow grease for both my Ritz and Verna. Both are diesels.

Only the even ones (20k, 40k, 60k, etc.) see ASS visits. Includes all of the above plus fluid replacements. This costs me 8.5k for Verna and 9.5 to 10k for the Ritz. Maruti is definitely not cheap to own, at least the diesel.

Ritz got the 60k service last month and the bill was 10k. Verna is at 45k on odo but I don't see any increase in service cost going by what the manual says the car needs.

Considering we both practically own the same Verna, your service cost is definitely on the lower side. Mine usually hovers around 12k. Maybe the rates in Chennai are different. Along with the 40k service I replaced the clutch and the bill came to around 20k.

It was one of the regular trips to ooty and I was in a bit of a hurry. Got stuck behind a very slowly driven innova on the masinagudi ghats and it was an awfully difficult drive uphill. The innova kept getting bogged down and stalled at most hairpins and all the vehicles following pretty much lost momentum everywhere. This was merely frustrating but what happened next was not the right thing to happen. I lost patience and overtook the innova once the ghats were over. The move though wasn't well executed and had to dive into my lane to avoid an oncoming bus and cut it rather tight. The left rear nudged another bus on my lane going uphill and felt a jerk. Felt quite bad and dived into a sleepy dirt track to check the damage. The wheel arch had a big dent and the bus paint on it. Had a chai, got my mind in order and drove carefully on. Gave the car off to trend automobiles in Bangalore on my return and got the dent fixed. All ok on the car front but the lesson was very clear. I know those roads like the back of my hand but one bad decision was all it took for things to go south.

The other day I was talking to an Ola driver about stress levels and he kept telling me that patience is the most important virtue in his line of work. I could clearly see how that simple virtue could have helped me. Could have pulled over, Had a chai and let the Innova go. Might have enjoyed the tea, soaked in the views and saved some dough too. Please reign in the impatience while on the road and soak in the better things in life.

Agree completely. Just let the morons go ahead. Just enjoy our drive or whatever is left

Isn't yours a Verna CRDi? Clutch at 40k seems waaay too early!! Do you eat your clutch for breakfast and dinner?

ahh .. its very hard to keep one's calm when the driver ahead is messing up and making things really difficult. The ola driver was right. Patience is the most important virtue on Indian roads. But it's easy to say and hard to practice. A small mis-judgement is all it takes for things to go wrong.

I was in a same situation years back on my way to Ooty. Got stuck behind a Scorpio guy who was stalling it on almost every hairpin. On one of the steepest hair pin, he stalled and rolled back!!!! Wife asked me to take a break. Did that at the first oppurtunity and waited for the other vehicles to go by. Restarted when there was lesser number of vehicles and reached without incidents. If not for her, this very same thing might have happened to me.

Have been saying this to him. But he says clutch is meant to be burned. He will probably burn it for diwali too
