Question 2014 Polo CL - Headlamp Upgrade - OEM Dual-Beam

      Hello folks!

I am planning to give my Polo (2014, 1.2L Comfortline) few upgrades.

The first thing want to upgrade is it's headlamps. My car came with clear headlamps (not the smoked ones that you get with Highline). I always wanted that smoked lamps as personally, I find them very attractive than the clear ones.

Now that the new Polo (Highline, 2015 onward) comes with dual-beam headlamps, I am wondering, if I can retrofit the new dual-beam headlamp to my Polo. I went to the VW showroom and had a word with the senior mechanic. He said, the new dual-beam will fit my Polo but backend connectors are different. He said they won't do it, but I can get it done outside. I that's because it might void the warranty.

      So the Questions are:

      1. Can I retrofit it? what about the wiring?
      2. Can I buy them at the VW counter?
      3. What about the warranty?

The mechanic also said that I can easily go for 2014 highline smoked headlamps and that would cost be 8000 + taxes /pair. I am thinking if I am spending money, why not go for new dual-beam ones.

      What do you guys think/suggest?

Why do you want to waste money on some accessory just for the looks. Instead get it tinted. By tinted I mean very light ones which won't affect the lighting.

Spend that money on some other accessory instead.

And yes. If you get it done outside your warranty will be voided.

Second. You might have to shell out more for the wiring incase of OEM which will cost a bomb.

VW never sells spares over the counter.

Thanks for your advise bala4567. My wife also think i am wasting money...

tinting the lamps can be a cheaper option. Will think over it. I should have bought the highline.. damn..

someone on this forum mentioned that highline smoked headlamp costs 5200/pair in Chennai. Why it's 8000+tax in Bangalore??

You can get retrofitted the dual barrel headlamps at VW workshop. Those headlamps cost around 13-14k and will need additional relay for the Polo having regular single barrel headlamps. Light throw is also better in those headlamps.

On the other hand, you can get fitted the projectors in your existing headlamps which won't cost more than getting the new headlamps. Projector guys smoke the headlamps so that purpose is also solved. But make sure to get such jobs done by experienced guys.

Projectors are a better option since, like Johnny Depp posted above, the double barrels cost a bomb (around 15k/pair). The old highline lamps in Kerala cost around Rs. 7k including labour at EVM Trivandrum. A friend had it done on his Vento from the authorised dealer here. Bangalore rates are shocking. 8k plus tax plus labour is too much.

binod049 As far i get your point "smoked" here means the black colored bezel in dual barrel headlamp of 2015 polo unlike the silver/chrome one in your polo. So why don't you just get the bezel painted black or even you can get it matched to your car color. Depends on your choice and preference. But for such headlight work ill say contact a good installer. Since you are from bangalore you should contact shyamhegde the best in this business in your area.

Yup. I know. There are a few different projector headlamps for the VW Polo/Vento which look real good. Like the double U type ones. They look much better than the blacked out double barrel/single barrel ones. I suggested projectors since I thought that if he is willing to spend ~Rs. 15k, he might as well spend some more and get ones which offer better illumination as well (I'm not too sure how much the projectors cost but I'm guessing ~20-25k?)

Or like someone said, get a light tint done. I've seen a few polos with a light tint on the headlamp and it actually looks pretty decent (VFM me thinks).
