How many years can a car be used?

I have a 2006 city zx,which has run 1,60,000kms. Now it has completed ten years without any problems and still runs.

With the model being discontinued it does not commands a great resale value. The online evaluations gives a deal around 2-3 lacs and brokers at 1-2 lacs. There is no use in selling the car for this price. With this car running perfectly it will be the buyer who gets a good deal,he gets a proper sedan at such a price.

So selling this car is not a good option, but how long can i run this car? 15 years?

Yes, 15 years is the usual said life of car.
If the rust has'nt set in & due care & Maintenance is taken, I am sure a car can be used 50 years +
Not as a daily driver though. Like a vintage maybe.

Do not sell the car if (a) you have a parking slot for it (b) you do not need 1-2 Lacs urgently (c) you have someone in your family who can drive/use the car periodically

If the maintenance cost is not becoming too high to make it worthwhile then by all means hold on it. At this stage, it is more car than the 2 lacs it will fetch. Unless you need the 2 lacs as down payment for a new car or you do not have space.
We had a Kawasaki Bajaj KB100 '89 model. Even In 2010, it could still accelerate briskly to 96 kph which all the puny modern day 4 stroke 100 cc will struggle to do. It was too worth to disposed off at 1000 odd bucks. We finally disposed it off at 1200 bucks only when we moved house in 2014 25 years later.

15 years is a good yard stick in your case. The tax would have expired anyway
      Thanks,

I have a 1974 BMW R90S with 252,000 km on the speedometer....and the bike is still good to pass 200 km/hour but not the rider. The bike was rebuilt about 10 years ago but needs new pistons now.

I would definitely keep it. Nice to know it has served well for 10years and over 150K kms. I had expect petrol to last this duration for sure. BTW the mileage, performance has taken a hit or it is still like it was 5yrs ago ?

My dilemma is to sell either 2010 spark 50k odo or the older city zx 2006 with a 1,60,000kms odo.The city zx is better in all aspects than the spark except the spark is newer than the cityzx.

Had a clutch replacement at 70k odo, mainly because of the bad chauffeurs.Mileage must be around 13-15kmpl i think.

More than years, It depends on the life of your engine (ie. how many kilometers it can be used for?) and your driving style. Toyota engines have a running life of 2.5 lakh+ km while that of ford is about a lakh. It also depends on how well you drive your car. I have seen people who drive like maniacs having to do major repairs on their cars in 4 years but also seen people who drive their car well and have had minimal maintenance cost for 10+ years.

But it is safe to say, that a car has a life of about 15 years if driven well.

OMG that is amazing mileage and if performance is still same it is great. My father City is giving 11-12kmpl and it is not even 4yrs old.
