How many years/km will you keep your car ?

How many yrs or km will you do before your next car ? I guess 5yrs or 50K should be minimum.

Some like to keep it for much longer. Those who upgrade quickly usually think they can get good value for selling a 5yrs old car and buy similar but modern car. Those who keep it for longer and get maximum out it probably go for big upgrade and not much for selling their 15yrs old car. Probably still keep if it runs without too much hassle. I have seen what looked like 90's model Mercedes. May be not the first owner but I think that car surely was 15+yrs old. Old model Toyota Corolla's and I still see lots of santro's too.

Just for curiosity wanted to know about others ?

PS: I choose the third option

I have bought 2 cars so far for personal use.

      1. FIAT PALIO, Bought in 2002, Sold in 2009, ownership period of 7.3 years and 62000 KM

      2. HONDA CITY, Bought in 2009, Still being used, ownership period so far 7.7 years and 178000 KM.

I do not have the temperament to deal with niggles and support issues. I like brands only till they do not create issues for me. i believe in keeping cars (or any machine for that matter) till they are serving us, the moment i am required to serve them, i will sell them.

      +1 to that.

My skoda is going to complete 9 years in a couple of months. Odo is inching towards 2L kms.

EDIT: The itch to upgrade did creep in 2014 when Mk3 Octavia was launched. But since Skoda priced it brilliantly at 2 times the price we paid for the old one, holding on seemed wise.

Yeah that is sensible option. It should not be a liability. I think most people keep the car as long as it serves them reasonably. But now a days some people sell it after some 5yrs. Get good resale and add more to get a new one.

I will definitely try keep my current Tjet (January 14) for 7-10 yrs. So 2nd option for me

For the record, somehow we have never sold any of our vehicles, right from scooters to cars. Its been always given to one or the other cousin's and forgot.
For eg - Our M800- 98 bought by my father is still serving my cousin. We use it when we go our hometown.
Our mpfi indica - 2003 is used by my father.
My bikes Adreno and P180 is also used by my cousins

I will keep my car forever and the speedometer shows 300,000 km. Even if I get another car I will still keep the Multivan for longer trips.

I have just joined my new ride in Aug'16. well have thought of keeping it for min 2L Kms.

I had previously chevy Beat with me, which clocked 1L km in 4 yrs. Sold as my wife was done with that.

We had bought 2k11 version Innova(used) in July 2016 and will be keeping him for another 4-5 years mostly.Had been using Vento, which is sold yesterday and the new owner had paid an advance of Rs.1,00,000 today and he will be taking the car tomorrow.Had used Vento for nearly 4 years and did approx 1,00,000 Kms in it.Its a 2012 one, which had run just 13000 Kms when we bought her in 2013 and now,she is at 1,12,000 Kms now. Will be booking a new Skoda Rapid this week as a replacement for Vento.
