Car is just a medium of transportation.

People used to own and use medium of transportation thousands of years ago, in the form of horses, bulls, bullock carts etc. They are now using it in the form of cars, two-wheelers, private jets, helicopters etc. They will keep using the medium of transportation after thousands of years as well, what will change is the form of the medium. Maybe flying cars will replace the road cars.

It seems a overblown statement that the automobile industry will be wiped out. What can possibly happen is that the current automobile companies will evolve with the time and may start producing the vehicles in the form suiting to the future.

In India, only <3% people actually own 4 wheelers. so this will grow to 5% ... that is how i read this Nostradomic prediction.

I am not a fan of such predictions, though.

TBH on roads there are just too many cars and I am getting worried. There is so much pollution here and especially in winter the smog stays around. I am obviously a big car fan and do not like motorbikes but it will be good if cars, vehicle on roads are reduced, less traffic and less pollution.

May be diesel cars should be banned and only premium car starting starting 10L should be sold. No used cars should exist and have high quality public transport.

Imagine, people in US, Japan, Europe start telling us Indians, that we should only start using cars in the 100K$ or above, which has certain anti polluting technology then how does it sound.
Your above sentence sounds same as the scenario described by me. it is restrictive. it is not inclusive. it does not consider the freedom or entitlement of all fellow citizens to also enjoy the same entitlements you (or me) enjoyed.

That made me laugh. In a good way though. If only premium cars were available at that price point in India. Alas, they start at 30L and by the time you get them home it's crossed 40L. I would have picked up a VW Tiguan if it was available at 10L or even 20L.

The traffic and pollution is really bad though and something needs to be done. I am not surprised some cricketer were vomiting during the test match played in Delhi. Yesterday was probably not worse and today surprisingly brighter, the reason seems to be Ockhi's Cyclone. Adelaide test match in Australia looked beautiful on TV in contrast. IMO improving public transport and some strict regulation on vehicles can improve the air quality and pollution.

Dust is major pollutant in India, especially in north India. Sweepers make the situation worst by sweeping the loose dust and leaving it on the spot. Same dust keeps flying with the vehicles. Winds don't flow in the winters so the the pollutant smoke generated by vehicles and industries etc mixes with the this dust and stays in the environment for long duration. I encounter it everyday when I go to drop my kid at school by walking in the morning. The quality of air is literally not breathable.

Condition of streets I walk, and it remains same everyday:
