      Need inputs on Fiio connectivity

I am going active with the addition of a Alpin PXA H800 DSP to my existing ICE setup. I also have a Fiio X5. Want to understand the connectivity options between the two. I am aware of the Coax-Digital converter but looking out for options.

The H800 does not take in Co-axial inputs, so you need a Co-axial to optical converter there to connect you Fiio..

Moreover, you Fiio does Hi-res 24bit upto 192khz, but the H800 does only 48khz processing, so it will down sample the files.

So it is better to take the Line out from the Fiio X5 and connect via RCA cables...

Coaxial to Toslink adapters are definitely available but you need to take care of some things. The adapter needs to be powered externally. If doing that through the 12v adapter, it should work with 12v DC Voltage. In such cases due to ground loop you may get noise even with a digital signal.

Or if the adapter uses 5v DC then it can work with a USB Charger or Power Bank. In the latter case the noise won't be there.

Best to look out for adapters that can work at 12v or 5v but even after that there are chances of artifacts in the signal added from the device so quality is not easily assured with such adapters.

      The adapter is not needed

You can go directly from the aux out to rca input of the H800. It allows for 3 separate analog sources. One of the sources can be the Fiio via aux to rca cable.

I had the exact same configuration when I had the H800 in my setup.

livelyyoungman If you look closely at the H800 input side, the Rockford fosgate white and black rca are from the HU as Analog Source 1, the Red and White RCA are actually 5m 3.5mm to RCA cable going to the glove box and was used with mobile phones or tabs if some one wanted to use their device.

All I had to do was switch the source from the RUX

Damn I miss the H800 now

Oh Oke. Similar setup would be mine as well. Going to retain my KD-R90BT HU as it has iPod connectivity and want to retain my steering control as well. Fiio or tab for additional use. The RUX is a fantastic beast. Makes life so simple.

Got myself a Coax to RCA as suggested by karanbhatia. Install and upgrade in progress. Should be done by tomorrow.
