      My 4G93 lancer build

Sharing my experience on 4G93 swap on a lancer diesel frame and thought it might be useful for others.

Came across one imported Mitsubishi single CAM petrol motor with manual gearbox whose engine code is 4G93 (roughly making 120 bhp) from a scrap dealer here in Chennai. Initially I donít have any such plan to buy this petrol motor since I own a diesel lancer and that too recently undergone an upgrade in the form of 4D68T motor.
More on my 4D68T upgrade can be found here http://gearheads.in/showthread.php?2...-Lancer-Diesel

Few months gone and just out of curiosity asked the same dealer whether the same engine is still available with him or not and heard from him saying itís there in the same place since there are no takers. The reason being he is not having the actual ECU & wiring harness that comes along with the engine.
The asking price is too tempting and I couldnít resist myself from getting this engine. Paid him the money and bought back the engine along.

This is how the engine looks when I take delivery from the dealer.

Did some googling and came to know this is a gen 1 4G93 motor with distributor type ignition. The plan is to get a complete Cedia wiring harness and use it against this engine. But Cediaís 4G94 engine comes with coil type ignition and also other 4G94 sensor wiring may not work out well in my 4G93 motor and hence dropped the idea of using Cediaís wiring.

The search for a complete wiring loom started and ended up contacting one dealer abroad who is willing to ship the entire wiring harness including OEM ECU with immobilizer deactivated.

Iíve the motor and a complete wiring loom, but the dilemma is whether to buy another petrol lancer or use my existing diesel lancer frame. My better half will kill me if I buy another lancer. So, the decision is to drop the diesel motor and pop in the petrol motor.

Came up with a list of parts needed to carry out this swap in a diesel lancer frame,

      1. Petrol tank with fuel pump
      2. Engine bed
      3. Shock absorbers especially the front one
      4. Complete air intake with MAF sensor
      5. Coil pack & ignition leads
      6. Complete exhaust system
      7. O2 sensor
      8. and much more

Worked started couple of weeks back. Dropped the old engine and resprayed the engine bay.

4G93s were available in India, they came on the lancer invex. It even came with a distributorless ignition. Indian invexs came with an auto transmission but the cedia manual gearbox would be a direct fit.

Wiring again wouldnt be an issue. It even possible to run Evo 8 ecus.

This is how indian invex engine bay looks like

Update: Managed to crank the engine and it came to life on first attempt which is good news, but not able to further proceed to due to availability of the following parts

      1. main fuse box wiring kit that controls the radiator fan motor, head lights and further the lines that goes & connects with the socket inside the driver side compartment is having some compatibility issues and due to that the instrument cluster is not working as expected.

      2. O2 sensor socket compatibility issue

      3. main engine bed (the one adjust cent to the timing cover). With the current one the engine is tilted towards one side.

      4. Cedia's accelerator cable not matching with 4G93 throttle body

      5. Initial plan is to use Cedia's MAF sensor, but here again i've socket compatibility issue. So i guess i need OEM air intake box i.e the portion of the box containing MAF sensor & hose that connects to the intake manifold that matches with 4G93 throttle body.

So the missing parts search begins,

Here is the snap of parts having compatibility problem,

Missed the thread till now, the 4g93 is the healthier cousin of the 4g94 ( cedia ) engine. Its got a smaller stroke allowing the engine to rev higher and also comes with a slightly different cam profile that makes some extra power at the top end.

We had turbocharged one 4g93 sometime earlier and it was a proper hoot to drive in the lancer chassis. Put out around 190 bhp on the Coimbatore dyno.

The best part was the budget, 4L including the cost of an Invex lancer with a broken down gearbox

Swapped a 4G15 gearbox on to it with the 4G94 flywheel and clutch.
