The night was long, after few calls, couple of meetings and reviews, it eventually ended around 2:30 am or so. I was required to return to work by 11 am. So the decision was to sleep till 6 AM, start the walk by 6:30 and finish it by 10 AM, get ready, have breakfast and start the work. That is exactly what I did.

First leg of the walk was along the Barakhambha road till the Mamdi house, then walk till NGMA and then till India Gate. Nayee Dilli or New Delhi is a moden city with well laid roads and foot paths and service roads. The sign boards are well written to guide people about directions. As it was early morning and Delhites are famously onown to start the day only before noon, traffic was still low. There were hardly any other walkers on the road, weather was pleasant with temperature around 13 deg C, airpollution at manageable level, it was a good beginning to the day. Sun rise was scheduled to be around 6:49 and I wanted to click the sunrise at India Gate.

I have been visiting Mandi House long ago in early 2000-2003 and then after a gap of 12-13 years again from 2015-18 now. It was first time I did not come here in a car, but walked. After remembering the good old DD years, I walked further ...

Soon I crossed Mandi House, Prasar Bharati Bhawan, Punjab House, Haryana House, tailed couple of well behaved dogs with their owner, couple of Naval and Defense areas, and eventually reached NGMA where I could see the first glimpses of sun rise

After admiring the sun and golden hue on the streets of Dilli I swiftly walked to the India gate. Eventually after an hour of walk, I was eventually at India Gate around sunrise time.

India Gate Pradakshina, Walk along RajPath..Central Secretariat, and walk back

After more than two decades, I had eventually managed to be at India gate around sunrise time. I took some pics, went around the India gate structure, offered few ments of silence to our deceased war heros, had a cup of hot tea and spent some quiet minutes and then had a video call with members back home.

While on RajPath, a military truck crawled close by and stopped. Two soldiers in uniform got down. I think they mistook me to someone, spontaneously spring to attention and saluted me, toy utter surprise. Quickly gathering my wits, I too returned their salute, exchanged smiles and moved on. As a civilian, it was one of the big pleasure moment to get salute from soldiers. A small reward for waking up early and walking this far... I thought. Beginning to the day was already great ...

From Vijay Chowk, I went further toward central Secretariat, went around South and Norn Block buildings and the viewing point of Rashtrapati Bhavan. A common man can only come this far. Spent some time admiring the majestic structures and as clock was already inching towards 9 AM, decided to walk back. Took the Raisina Road, passed Parliment house, took Jantar Mantar Road and reached the Connaught Place after passing besides familiar Lemeridian and Shangrila hotels.

Reached hotel by 10 AM, after 10 KMs walk, quickly had breakfast, freshened up after having a shower, got ready and returned to work by 11 AM, just in time prior to rest of the guys got ready. Anyway business or work starts only after 11 AM in Delhi. I was glad that I completed my wish of walking on RajPath after almost 2 decades.

After my meetings got over, my hosts wanted to arrange a transport to airport. But we're shocked when I said, I would be walking to Shivaji Stadium metro station which is approx 2 KMs away. Some of them were going to airport as well and insisted that I joined them. But I told them that I have to pick up something at CP and then come to airport. Eventually when I reached the T3, the we're still somewhere mid way due to the late arrival of vehicle and traffic on route.

Thus ends my walking trip around Nayee Dilli.

A 10 KM Walk... For Peanuts, Quite literally :-)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadalekai_Parishe is the annual groundnut fair held at Basavanagudi, generally in the month of Nov-Dec. I have been reading about it since last 10 years in the newspapers, but never managed to visit. this year, i decided to go there and visited yesterday.

Drove till Indira Gandi Musical Mountain and parked my car there, then walked to the Cubbon Park Metro Station, took Metro rail till Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station at Majestic, Changed over to the other line and took another metro till National College. Walked along the Krishna Rajendra Road, Gandhi Bazar and Bull Temple Road all the way till Kamath Bugle Rock, visited the Doddabasava Temple, had darshan and prasad, experienced the Kadlekai Parishe, had variety of ground nuts, raw, boiled, fried, masala, chat, with and without chai, along with other snacks, sugarcane pieces etc etc. It is a must experience event of Bengaluru just like Aero Show, Flower Show and Chitra Sante.

Atmosphere is energizing, weather is pleasant, facilities are good, groundnuts are affordable, police force is not intrusive, temple is spiritual, prasad is spicy and delicious, crowd is young and noisy, groundnut farmers / traders are compelling, surrounding restaurants like Vidyarthi Bhawan, Roti Ghar, Cake Ghar, Brahmin's Holige etc are worth the visit, Metro ride is efficient, 10 KM walk is healthy. Overall a date with peanuts, a walk for peanuts, quite literally.

We walked back through he same route, took a metro train from national college till Vidhansoudha, walked back to the parking location and drove back home, total 10 KM of walk.
