Question Car randomly refuse to start

I am having this problem for few days now. It randomly refuse to start. I just hear a single click. Battery seems good I think. With radio, AC or lights around 14V. The car is not even 5yrs old but I do lot of small distance and lots of start/stop. Could it be the starter ? I hope it is some loose connection or rust which is causing it.

Wow just saw this video. My car is making the exact same sound but it happens randomly, it is not dead. I am giving the car for service tomorrow. Any idea how much they are going to charge me for diagnosing and fixing this issue

Very informative. I learned a lot in this video

Check the trigger wire to the starter motor if corroded or loose. Then check the earth wire from the battery to the chassis. If one of these, you can do it yourself in a few minutes.

Probably I should have checked with some local mechanic too.

The service guy even before checking said it could be battery problem as it is pretty common problem. Later he called and confirmed that rest is fine just the battery was giving trouble. So I hesitatingly asked him to put the new battery. According to 12V device my old battery was suppose to be good. I thought battery last for 5yrs and he was like anything over 2yrs is considered good

I got the amaron flo 35Ah battery. I hope it is much better than OEM one.

Recently my Nissan Micra Diesel gave me the same issue. I gave it to my local trusted mechanic.

My mechanic took close to 5 days to find the fault. As the car didn't show any error code on the scanner, first they checked complete wiring and then fuel lines and then sensors. Finally, they found the fault with Crankshaft position sensor. Luckily just the cleaning of this sensor took care of the problem. Now even after 2 months car is performing without any issue.

      Hope this helps.

To me it looks like a battery on its last legs. I am sure you will find a weak cell or two.

For me, after the new battery everything is normal. In fact I feel the headlights are more brighter than before.

@Kimi; I faced something similar on my Santro, even though the battery had a few months left.It was cheaper to buy a new battery and forget the warranty. Remember my car was AT.

No way a battery lasts that long & if it does, you should be really lucky. Most batteries starts showing their age in their 3rd year & anytime during 4th year it will surely die.

In diesels, the battery lasts hardly 3-4 years. While in petrol cars, battery lasts a bit longer.

In my Vista, i had to change batteries in 4 and 3.5 years (both Exide). In Storme battery (Amaron) is continuing well with 3+ years now, and i think it will go on for 2 more years easily.

In my Alto, the replacement battery (an Exide) had lasted for full 7 years before i had to change it, and the car was used in stop-go Bangalore traffic for office-home-office and local errands only, with no highway drives. Before that the OEM one (Exide) had to be changed in 4 years.
