      Bramheshwara Temple, Kikkeri

From Anekere, we have to drive to Chennarayapattana and then take the road to Kikkeri which is some 19 KMs. We managed to reach this temple, just before it got closed after the Noon time Puja.

This is another unique temple where Ishwar (The Destroyer) is worshiped also as Bramha (The Creator) . This temple appeared to be under some sort of renovation, probably constructing the approach road or the compound wall.

We did not spend much time here as probably we were already overwhelmed by previous 3 temple visits and seeing so many carvings.

As Sun was scorching, we decided to have some cool sugarcane juice, fresh extracted in front of us in Kikkeri town

Keshava Ishwara Jodi Temple, Mosale Hosahalli

From Kikkeri, one could drive back to Chennarayapattana and take interior road to Mosale Hosahalli, which has some scenic agri-fields on either side of the road, the road condition is excellent, but single lane.

This one picture is for the Happy Car for all those 215K+ KMs.

Mosale village is some 16 KMs from Hassan town. We crossed the town and took the Belur Road and stopped at Hoysala Food Court for a delayed lunch followed by tea.

      Hoy Sala ... The Legend

There is an interesting story associated with how the Hoysala dynasty was named. It is said that a young boy named Sala and his teacher were in a temple in Angadi when a tiger approached them menacingly. The teacher handed Sala, an iron rod and said “Poy Sala” which translates to ‘strike Sala’. Sala took the rod and kill the Tiger with a single blow. Sala went on to set up a vast kingdom and took his teacher’s cry as his family name.

This carving at the next temple tells this above story where a brave boy kills a attacking tiger.

Name of the Boy is Sala (and Not Sala as in Hindi, which means Brother in Law), It has to be spelt in Kannada. Sala means thin iron rod.

I have attached a screenshot of the word from the translator.

Kannada script has additional characters, it has one of the maximum number of characters for a language. one needs a good command over ones own tongue and voice box to spell many of these characters. only other language which has many of these additional characters is Tamil (as per my understanding).

The reason i made this post is to ensure that the visitors spell the name of of one of the most important, brave, culturally rich, peace loving dynasty that ruled the land for over 3 centuries deserve their name to be spelt properly. To all those North Indian folks, Foreigners, and people who can not twist their tongue properly to spell the last character and who forcefully substitute "brother in law" into the name of this dynasty, please correct yourself and make efforts to spell it properly.

      Shri Laxmi Temple, Doddagaddavalli

Visit to this temple, in my view was the best experience among all Hoysala Temples. This temple is on route from Hassan to Belur, 16KMs from Hassan. It is situated on the banks of a lake, extremely peaceful, one can even hear his own breathing sound. It is said that Wealth and Peace can not coexists. At this place one can witness the Godess of Wealth (Laxmi) and Godess of Peace (Shanti) coexisting at the same place. I had been to Belur and Halebeedu temples atleast half a dozen times, we drove through the Hassan - Belur route atleast few times a year, but i never knew this temple existed and it is so beautiful. At hindsight, i think i missed this for last 11 years i have been traveling this route.

This was the shock value, Betals guarding the entry to Laxmi's Temple. Goddess of Wealth is guarded by Ghost Warriors, who are fearless and can not suffer pain or death for that matter. I had not seen these statues at first glass as they were hidden behind the pillars. Sudden realization really shocked me to great extent.

Logs of our visit to Beluru & Halebeedu - World Heritage Sites

Initially i was under dilemma whether as part of this temple run, should i once again visit the Beluru and Halebeedu temples. Then as both my nephew and myself had visited multiple times, we decided to skip the same. But for reference i am adding the links to my travelogue to Beluru and Halebeedu

Nomadic Drives : into Namma Kannada nadu - Page 5

Nomadic Drives : into Namma Kannada nadu - Page 6

Those who are interested, can go through the same. I think in recent times (in last 5-6 years at least) i have not visited both these World Heritage Sites. I also went through these links while searching for them on Gearheads. It acts as a repository as well.

Personally I think Halebeedu temple is more scenic and beautifully carved out than the one at Beluru. Shiva Balikas of Beluru Temple is an exception. there is no match for them. i think i have all pics of all of them in above 2 links.

In our earlier few trips, i had tried to go to Mullayyanagiri to watch sunrise, but could not do. but this time, we had some local support. Friends of my relative were ready to accompany us to Mullayyanagiri, and knocked our doors at 4:15 am and we started our journey by 4:45 am

Next day was an early morning start, City Lights @ 4:45 am.

We started climbing up, initially i felt i can not make it to the top, but the folks motivated me (practically dragged me to the top), all the climbing early morning was worth it. the feeling at the top is awesome. the breeze, the cold, the view, the "i have done it feeling" can be found only there, no where else.

We soon drove down and had our breakfast "Rice Bhaath" it tasted awesome after all that climbing up and down. There was no tea or coffee available, but much better, tender coconut. it was a perfect breakfast after a trek to the highest peak in Karnataka. It was 9 AM by the time we completed breakfast, well spent 4+ hours in recent times.

We had to attend a wedding reception in the evening, we decided to explore Chikmagaluru during the day. As we had locals with us, we did not waste much time planning and it was totally a surprise value for me as even i was not aware where we will go next. It is good to have such a day once in a while, just go with the flow...

We returned to the room, freshened up, went to the prewedding reception, and spent the night with the relatives and cousins. It was a long night filled with conversations and dialogues, jokes and nostalgia. we do not know when we slept.
