Guys...needs some help on choosing better tyres for Scala. Default size is 185/60/R15. Looking to go for 205 , especially for better braking performance.

matbhuvi, you have technically correct two options to go with since you are looking towards a 205 size upgrade.

Just a tyre upsize - 205/55/R15 tire size will end you up with (0.66%) variation from the original spec.

Or an upsize to a larger 16" rims - 205/50/R16 will give a (1.33%) variation from the original spec. However, always better to stick to as close as possible with the factory given spec to avoid speedo error and other jazz

Brand of Tyres; N number to choose from in both the specs; again depending on your requirement and budget (Mich's, Bridge's, Conti's, Yoko's, Maxxis, Apollo, etc)

I would suggest to go with 195 instead of 205 - broader you go, more friction and the car will be that much sluggish. Also fuel economy will take a slight hit. 195 should provide you the additional boost.

      Hello everyone

I have a 2012 model Hyundai i20 still on stock Apollo Acleres .They havs run 37000 in 5 years and need replacement.

Suggest the most appropriate tyre upgrade without affecting fuel economy much. Also any good tyre's under 5000 per tyre since i plan to change all five.My car running is on broken roads and InterCity only.Wet grip also needs to be good.

Lucky guy. 5 years and only 37000 kms done.
I have 2013 Skoda Rapid, first set Yoko C Drive replaced after 47000 km, next set Hankook V8RS already done 33000 kms, and by end of this month it would have done 38000 kms.

Wow that's some serious running you have done.

Anyhow i plan to change the tyres to Yokohama Earth one 186/65/R14.
Cost is 4200 per tyre and free hunter alignment and balancing

#AMG Style If you have not yet finalized your tyres; you can also take a look at Bridgestone/Michelin/Goodyear/Falken tyres. All these brands should ideally have the sizes you are looking for and the price would come around the 5K mark. However, Michelin's are the costlier ones of the lot and you might have to extend your budget a little bit but the gains (Comfort & Breaking aspect) are good.

No i have not finalized anything just planned.

I rejected Bridgestone due to low end tyres are mostly available and some higher end like AR20 is 5-6 months old in nearby areas.
Michelin have weak sidewall plus the car is run a bit rough sometimes so it's out of consideration. Also since my running is low i don't require soft compound tyres
Falken is not available plus its not usually recommend by others
Goodyear couldn't find some good reviews about High end tyres
Apollo is outrightly rejected because i already have one currently and want to shift to some other brand
Mrf also i considered but no good reviews about their high end tyres

So its Yokohama only left i Guess which is medium compound tyres

Okay, i feel like there are very less number of all rounder tyres out there which will fit budget wise as well

Most of them fare in one or the other aspect and might not be good in another one. What i have felt is Acceleres are one of the best budget tyres currently available in the market that one can go ahead with eyes closed. Cos i have used 4 sets of these in different vehicles and not even once i felt bad about my choice. Currently my Figo is again running Acceleres 15" (195/50/15) and it is good and vfm.

Yokohama's are okayish i would say and lot of people have mixed kind of opinions about it. Have never used one, hence can't comment.

How does it compare with Yoko C Drive?
It was my first set and lasted fairly well.
