Diesel Engine Oils available in India and their life.

Wanted to document the various engine oils we use, and what we find good, and bad.

Most of the life of my car, it has run on Shell Helix Ultra, fully synthetic. Although last change I tried Delo 400, and it seems to be the best mineral oil for a diesel you can buy in India. I will try this for one more change before deciding to stick with it.

Briefly tried Mobil 1, but removed it quickly(around 2000kms) as my engine started making "vague" sounds.

I used to change the Shell synthetic oil for every 6000 to 7000 kilometers, and will do the same for the delo 400 I am currently running.

What about you? What oil do you put in your cars?

I run Shell Helix Ultra on my octi and it runs for about 7500 kms per change and been very happy with its performance, no complaints so far, so no changing in that regard.

I'm using OWS Turboracing. Its not diesel specific. Its expensive, but works like magic. Lasts for 10. Performance starts suffering by 15k.
How much does shell helix cost per liter?
I didnt see any particular benefit to mobil 1.
Mobil delvac is what i used before going mental with mods on the swift. Did its job well.
Would like to try delvac 1, purely for the savings. But loathe to do so because the OWS is so good.

Any idea about specs of the OWS Turboracing oil?

And shell costs around 800 for a liter I guess, if you buy the 4L can. The 1L is marked at about Rs. 1000, I think. Sorry dont remember the correct prices. Sriraj I think gets it much cheaper outside. I buy from the shell gas stations.

Never buy from shell gas stations they are expensive than dealers outside i have checked it

Shell 4 ltr is marked at 3800per ltr MRP if i am not wrong but one will surely get it for less if you know people concerned

why call it a ' building' if it already built?

      Car - Indica Turbo
Criteria - Kms after oil change when car begins to sound like a tractor

GTD - 1000~2000 Kms. This oil is pretty much crap. used to sound great right after an oil change though

Delvac MX - ~3000Kms, but it sounded a lot rougher even immediately after the oil change

GTX diesel - Sounds less noisy than the Delvac Immediately after, remains to be seen how long it holds up ( ~1500Kms yet and counting)
The key to keeping an indica happy is not in the engine oil, but in using system D religiously with the fuel . I strayed away a bit recently and have since repented

I dont think Chevron is closing, at least the dealer whom you got the oil from says no, it is not closing. Not sure why/where that started. Maybe somebody else will know here.
