Wow, now who is this DISCOUNT friend of yours from my town, Rahul?

BTW, IMO all oils are the same as long as you change them frequently. I use three different brands in three different vehicles and am Happy

      FYI,

My MG413W runs Duron Semi synthetic oil - Interval 5K kms
The Accent CRDi runs - Shell Helix Ultra / OWS Multimax HD 15W40 - Interval 5K kms
The Bolero Storm VLX - Mahindra's patented engine oil changed by the ASS guys - Interval - 5k Kms.

IMO the engine oils act as a flush and the earlier we change them the better for any IC engine. No point in going in for costly flushes unless one like to experiment! The engines definitely appears smoother after any oil / oil filter change.

Unless one is into high revving racing kind of situation or the engines rev beyond 10K rpm, there is not much point in going in for a fully synthetic oil.

I do not hope to start a war and this is my experience and opinion.

Found a superb contender to the diesel oil competition. SHELL RIMULA R4 - CI4 rating. Am now using this in my car. The car feels much more smoother and feels faster too(I dont know if this is just a feeling )

I am using Petronas Urania Supremo CI4 in my Indica.

      Change the oil every 15000Kms.
But change the Oil filter every 7500Kms and top-up the oil.

The car sounds better and the oil does not give a burnt smell even after 15000 Kms.

Have been using this oil for the past 45000 Kms.

Oil Cost per Km === Rs 1200/- for 15000 Kms = Rs 0.08/Km
      2006 May, Safari Dicor 3.0 (88,500 Kms)
      1985 Mar, Suzuki SS80 DX (47,500 Kms)

      2001, MM550 XD
      1950, Land Rover Series 1

Today I was looking for Mobil Delvac MX for my Swift D and could not find it anywhere around Kormangala. I had to keep the car for 2nd service today, so I went to Shell and bought Shell Helix HX6 15W 40.

I paid 868/- for 4L. How is this oil?

Snythetic oils are better than Mineral oils. If Rs 1000 for a litre of oil is affordable for you, by all means use only Synthetic. If you feel that is expensive, use a good mineral oil. And the one mentioned below is a good one now.

And there are more complicated ways to argue on which type of oil is better, but for normal street use, this is an easy way to put it down.

Pretty good, on my second change with this, and I got some 6*4L cans last time. Just make sure you go for the Diesel version of HX6, for a Diesel car. Can looks like below.
