      Bangalore to Trichy route suggestions

      Guys,

I frequently travel to Trichy. Here are route suggestions to reach Trichy. By all means, avoid the stretch between thotiyam to kulithalai which is horrible!!

      Here is the route suggestion.

All of us know that bangalore to namakkal is a breeze. From namakkal, take the one to Thuriyur via Tattayangarpettai and From Thuriyur to Trichy is via pulivalam and mannachannallur. This is a much better route. Hope this helps one!

That was the route I took last time. It was good enough. Thank God I avoided all the Musiri route mess.

Glad to know that. There is one more route which I tried which is under construction. From salem, go to Atthur (4 lane highway in progress) and from Atthur to Thuriyur (This is a scenic route adjacent to the Kolli hill ranges and road is in good condition.) this routes avoids Namakkal.

But Attur route is in mess. Once it gets done, it would be good to travel on this route.
But is the road conditions from Attur to Thuraiyur like the Thuraiyur- Trichy stretch?

Yes. Attur to salem is a big mess. After checking with the folks there, they informed that the road will be ready for commuting by August. The road from Attur to Thuraiyur is in excellent condition except a few patches(easily avoidable) in a few places. Less traffic and scenic drive surrounded by hills.

From August, I will take that route. Is it safe in the Night? i.e the Attur- Thuraiyur stretch?

It looked deserted in the day time hence Night driving might be tricky in Attur- Thuraiyur stretch. Best is to avoid during the night.

Bangalore - Trichy Route options and Road conditoin

I am going to compare my latest two drives from Bangalore to Trichy

Things that will be compared road conditions, Traffic,Journey duration and the route

      First one

      Nov 24th - 2012
We were planning to start around 4 AM but heard about the demise of a politician so just to avoid crossing salem during daytime Started at 2.40 AM
      Route Taken
      Bangalore-Salem-Namakkal-Musiri-Trichy (Didnt touch Kulithalai)
      Journey Duration :
2.40 AM - 8 AM thats 5 hrs and 20 mins (Two 10 mins breaks in between).I was able to cross bangalore to in less than 20 mins (starting from Vignan Nagar(Malleshpalya))
      Road Condition:
Bangalore to Krishanagiri, Road widening going on too many deviations
Krishnagiri - Namakkal ,passed like a breeze
Namakkal- Musiri-- PATHETIC IS NOT THE WORD
      Musiri-Trichy --- OK
      Overview
Best thing was the decision to start early..
Minimal traffic and minimum number of breaks take helped reach my home in trichy exactly in 5hrs and 20 mins inspite of the Pathetic road condition after Namakkal ..
If that stretch would have been better I would have done it in less than 5 hrs

      Second one :
      December 7th 2012
      Route Taken
      Bangalore-Salem-Namakkal-Thuraiyur-Trichy
      Journey Duration :
3.30 PM - 10.45 PM so thats around 7 hrs and 15 mins ..When I entered Hosur (TN Border ) it was 4.50 PM Thanks Bangalore traffic especially Friday afternoon...
      Road condition :
Bangalore to Krishanagiri, Road widening going on too many deviations
Krishnagiri - Namakkal ,passed like a breeze
      Namakkal to Thuraiyur - Good
Thuraiyur to Trichy - Very good
      Overview
Worst Decision to start by 3.30 PM every where traffic , all Toll booth had a long queue ,
Even though Namakkal -thuraiyur-Trichy road condition was good It took me to 2 hrs to finish it as my max speeed was only 80 KM/Hr because of two laned road + It was dark (Damn!!!! they dont dim their lights )
Heavy Traffic and almost close to an hour of breaks stretched the drive to 7 hrs and 15 mins

Right now the best. Route via musiri is not to be taken. Refer post no. 8 of this thread

You can try this route to velankanni. I have travelled on this route to tirukkoilur. Refer to my post on NEW ROUTE FROM BANGALORE TO TIRUKKOILUR.
