used Ford Fiesta ZXi 1.6 or SXi 1.6S

hi friends, this requirement is for my friend.
he is looking for a used ford fiesta petrol.

we recently saw 2 good examples.

    1.
    Fiesta 1.6 ZXi (ABS)
    less then 5000 kms done
    2009 Aug model
Car is neat without any blemishes/scratches
    Engine feels almost like new
Tyres are almost new as they have done 4K+ kms only

    2.
    Fiesta 1.6S SXi (ABS/Airbags)
    34K kms done
    2009 Apr model
Car is neat without any blemishes/scratches (except for a small scratch point)
Engine response better then ZXi (might be because of low mileage ZXi feels tight)
Almost brand new tyres - Yokohama A drives

though test drives were short - both of them felt good. i could not see any problem with suspension/brakes etc.

AFAIK only suspension is different (stiff) in 1.6S when compared other models of 1.6 petrol fiesta. please confirm. does this hamper the city ride quality when compared to ZXi?

both are being negotiated for around 5.4lacs all inclusive. both have genuine mileage numbers and no accident history (background check in progress - both are from reliable sources)

all other characteristics of fiesta 1.6 are present. so can you help us decide which would be a better buy.

i personally feel 1.6S SXi is better. even though it has done around 30K extra kms the airbags/skirting/soft touch dash/alloys/wider almost new Yoko A drives is a much better trade off.

Let me know what is your choice and why.

PS: does 1.6 S comes with EBD?

If I were your friend I would take the 1.6Zxi anyday. Purely because its run just 5k. That is like an almost brand new car. Do check if the 5k is GENUINE.

A car that has run 34k will be close to seeing a lot of parts replaced. Eg: Tyres, brake pads, clutch (depends on how it was driven) etc. And the more a vehicle runs will mean you will have to spend more sooner on preventive maintenance.

Buy the ZXi and get the alloys + tyres + spoiler when you can.

My vote is for option #1 & pls pls pls BARGAIN HARD. If you can get it done at the lowest possible price, then there's nothing like it because of low mileage & its a brand new used car that comes with a less price tag. But then, why is it that the owner is selling at a such low mileage? Any reasons?

There is a Fiesta 1.6S and there is a Fiesta 1.6 SXi. The former is the sports version with the bodykit, spoiler and 15" alloys and that's the one you saw I guess. The ride in the back is stiffer but it can be a dealbreaker only when elderly people regularly sit in the back. You can't feel anything in the front.

It also has a different ECU map and exhaust system so it will be more responsive. So your experience was spot on. And the handling prowess is legendary. It's only marginally slower than a 160 BHP Laura on the track. And it has EBD as well. Being a top end model, it has better interiors as well. The mileage will generally be about 1 kmpl lower than a ZXi if driven by the same person. But my 1.6S gives better mileage than kiku007's ZXi and sanjayc's SXi.

Go for the S. It's an iconic car and you will enjoy every minute of the drive. Take it to a Ford workshop for a complete check before you buy it. What's the color of the car? And is it KA regd?

mclaren1885 and Aargee : thats what same people would decide i think

Gilead : thanks for the info and inspiration (to my friend - he is reading too ) and yeah it is KA registered.

and another +point for 1.6S is a Blue colour one and Zxi is Silver and my friend hates that colour.

but genuine low mileage on ZXi making it difficult to decide

5.4L for a 2 Yr old Petrol Fiesta 1.6S done 34K Kms is quite high! Almost new tires, yes. Bargain hard like aargee says. After all the new fiesta is coming and resale prices are going to go south.

From what you have posted, the ZXi under 5L would be a good deal. However the Aquaris blue 1.6 S is known to seduce people to look beyond rationale thinking Even today when I look at one, I'd be like, "Why didn't I save enough to buy the 1.6S in AB?"

I would go for the ZXi as it seems more VFM in my opinion. 5k run is more like a new car and there you save the headaches of run-in and expense of purchasing a new car.

5.4 looks a good price for ZXi but a high price for the S as its run more.

Ride quality differs between the normal models (E/Z/Sxi and S) with S having stiffer suspension. I would opt for the ride quality of the ZXi as opposed to the S. On normal driving conditions, the ZXI is a pretty good handler and the ride quality is better than the S.

    ZXI it is for me.

two variants of fiesta. both for more or less the same price. and just 5 months difference between purchase. one run 5k and another 34k. if i were your friend, i would become wiser and go in for the ZXi. agreed that the S is more sportier, has all the bells and whistles blah blah..... but still 34k would mean that just another 16k left for a major milestone of 50k which would be mostly heavy on the pocket in terms of maintainance and AFAIK, ford spares are not wallet friendly.

so finally, if the head speaks louder, go for the ZXi. or if your the heart takes over, go for the S.
