Finally I found the issue on my cycle. It was the wheel that was bent So now the question is how do I remove the wheel? I tried doing last weekend, but...
    - Couldn't find a way to remove the chain because I couldn't find the link lock (wondering how they made the chain without the lock mechanism)
    - Unless chain is removed, I can't do anything else
    - How do I remove the gears & the rear wheel? Are they independent or how should I go about removing them?

    help

Aagree, you don't need to remove the chain. Even it you find the lock-link its notoriously difficult to un-lock it.
Easy way out is to manually de-rail the chain. Do it at the Pedal-crank (front)
That will generate enough slack in the chain facilitating rear tyre removal.

Also keep the gears and stuff untouched. Its again very difficult if you screw up the delicate alignment.
It will fail to shift or worse keep slipping. Make sure you keep the chain on the smallest cog (on the rear wheel) so it will be have more slack and will be easier to remove.

Oh yeah keep the bike inverted (yes the wheel skywards) No I kid you not.. Its very easy to keep the tyres up on an MTB with the seat and handle bar keeping the bike level.

Nope. its not that easy to remove that way; I've already explored that option.

    Ok. Not sure why.
I've done it countless times on my stolen BSA - Streetcat 18 speed and also on many of my friends bikes.
I was the local bike repair guy

    EDIT :

Again on a bike with quick release its extremely simple.

    See..
