Toyota launches the New Corolla Altis with 140PS Engine and 7-speed CVT-i Gearbox

There has been number of spy shots on face lifted Corolla Altis and finally Toyota Kirloskar Motors has announced to launch the new 2011 Corolla Altis facelift in India within the next 15 days

Toyota have not changed the exterior of the car much, with only subtle changes made to the front and rear. The interior of the car has been refurbished though, with clearly perceptible changes made to the cabin, including a better instrument cluster. The alterations are more than just skin deep, the petrol engine of the car has been altered for marginally better output and driveability. There is also a new Super CVT seven speed auto transmission which will be available on the petrol version. The diesel engine for the car remains unchanged

Corolla Altis’ earlier 1794cc VVT-i engine replaced by a 1798cc dual VVT-i engine. Dual VVT-i controls both intake and exhaust valves based on a number of variables for better efficiency and driveability
Power is up from 130bhp to 138bhp, both at 6000rpm
Torque is up from 169Nm (4200 rpm) to 172Nm and is produced at a lower 4000 rpm
Petrol engine gets a new seven speed Sequential Shiftmatic ‘Super CVT’ auto transmission. This replaces the earlier five speed auto, is more fuel efficient and more responsive
ARAI efficiency figure for the auto transmission petrol – 15.22kmpl
Diesel engines comes only with the six-speed manual transmission

Toyota launches all-new Corolla Altis in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. announced the launch of the Stunning New Corolla Altis in India. The New Corolla Altis has been distinctively designed to give it a advanced and dynamic look. The petrol variant comes with an all new powerful 2ZR Dual VVT-I engine and super CVT-i with 7 speed sequential shiftmatic enhancing the output and torque. The new contemporary styling and enhanced performance makes the New Corolla Altis a perfect combination of dynamism and performance.

The petrol variant will come with an all new powerful engine - 2ZR Dual VVT-i Engine 1798 CC, producing an increased output of 140 PS @ 6400 rpm and an improved torque of 173 Nm @ 4000 rpm. The new engine is designed to provide excellent driving performance, best in class fuel economy and environmental performance with lower emission.

The petrol variant is available in both super CVT-i with 7 speed sequential shiftmatic or 6 speed manual transmission. The 4 speed AT in the petrol variant has now given way to the super CVT-i with 7 speed sequential shiftmatic. The 5 speed manual transmission (MT) has also been upgraded to a 6 speed MT. This will enable a smooth change in gears and a better control over the car with more gear options, excellent driveability, and class leading fuel economy. The enhanced low to mid speed range torque and high speed range output will provide smoother acceleration in high traffic and greater accelelration on highways.

The Diesel variant retains its 1ND D-4D Diesel Engine with Variable Nozzle Turbo & Intercooler with 6 speed manual transmission. It continues to provide, best in class fuel economy of 21.45 kmpl.

The diesel and petrol variants get advanced and dynamic exteriors and the latest in luxury features. The new advanced interior creates an advanced and refined atmosphere. The new plush leather perforated seats, darker grey upper interior colour and the dark wood finish adorns the interiors giving a richer feel. The New Corolla Altis is equipped with an array of the latest luxury features - push start/stop button, smart entry, new DVD touch screen audio with bluetooth, new design optitron meter with eco diving indicator, remote boot opener and reverse sensor.

The 140PS engine must be one hellava screamer in the Altis. The Old Corolla itself was quite a scorcher and was the quickest car in the segment, till the Skoda RS was launched.

Saw a few masked cars around Cubbon Park a few weeks back, though nothing major in exterior changes, I guess, the 7-speed CVT transmission will go very well with the group 50+ yrs who love to drive or be driven.

IMHO, It will crowned again as the Segment leader (Petrol). It could strictly affect the sales of Skoda Laura, New Jetta & Honda Civic.
Aggressive pricing, gadgets & creature comforts, rear leg room, plush quality, toyota reliability and after sales support gives a tight slap to its contenders.
But, a powerful diesel engine should have done much much better.
