    I correct my statement,

does no OTHER foreign manufacturer dare to give a turbo in their diesel hatchbacks ?

    or

I CAN HAS TURBO FROM OTHER FOREIGN BRANDS?

what I mean is having a limited list of automobile makers for Hatchbacks in India is getting booring, these guys just revamp their design, keeping the basic concept same.. Time for something new... Like the feel brought over by swift when It was introduced...

apart from the basic 1.2-1.6 engines, where are performance hatchbacks ?

They do, but the import policies in India are so screwed up that no one will dare to enter the country unless they have elaborate plans to setup manufacturing plants here. Or else their CBUs will cost a bomb.

Do you mean, the Ford Focus, Fiesta hatchback, Suzuki SX4 hatchback, et al? IMO, the biggest deterrent is the price, and then the mileage.

    EDIT:

First, where are the Petrol performance hatches ?? They are supposed to be atleast a lac cheaper than similar diesel hatches !!!
THe market hasn't matured for manufacturers to give us a options to choose for a performance hatch.
Going by recent launches(Etios, New Fiesta 1.5L,) future is getting bleak even for performance sedans !!

The Skoda Laura TSI 1.8 Ambiente and the Laura TDi 2.0 Ambiente cost Rs.13.63L and 14.08L respectively - a price difference of less than fifty grand, in this segment. I don't think performance hatches would be 1L cheaper in their petrol versions. I would say, they may be on par with the diesels.

Thats the key point -'Similar' diesel hatches. You think the 2.0 TDI stands a chance against the 1.8 Tsi ?
Same with Fiesta. Fiesta 1.4 Duratorq sells for approx 80K more than the Fiesta 1.6 Dura tech, but you should drive both to know what happens after 120km.
Vento 1.6P and Vento 1.6 TDI a lac and quarter difference, and the TDI smokes the Petrol
New Verna Petrol and CRDI difference is ~1.1L, Diesel smokes the Petrol right left and centre.

Its competition that's keping companies on their toes and they are coming up with different ways (facelifts, features, price reduction, lesser roi etc) to have more footfalls in their showrooms and finally convert them to customers.
Competition is always good for customers
