Godfather: Thanks all is in order now.
    You have my favorite handle.
Since I can remember, I have loved that novel & still carry a tattered copy that I had actually stolen from a seamen's club in Sweden. Dont think of me a thief, I was just a lad at that time & on my second ship as cadet. Of all my things, that copy of novel is one thing that has never changed. Its like my talisman.

    Supply vessel

SUPPLY VESSELS are used in offshore industry & as its name denotes are used for supplying various type of stores, fuels, fresh water etc to OIL RIGS, OIL PLATFORMS & sometimes to larger ships. They are also used in pulling out smaller stranded ships sometimes.
This one was laid-off from last two years & owners were trying to revive her back into business.

The first blue ship is one that I have worked on. Rest are the ones I visited for surveys. The largest ship that I have worked on could carry 2,50,000 MT of liquid cargo.
Welcome VPSR. Great to have you on board. I'm a Captain too and I work on Chemical Tankers. I will post some pictures too.

When as a layman we think of ships, we think of floating metal vessels being used for transportaion of goods. But for a shippie its his bread, butter & LIFE.

Each ship is a complete small world in itself. Sometimes many different nationalities working together to make a ship run smoothly.

I would like to share some shippie language for the non-shippies here. I'll keep it as simple as possible:
    1) Divide a Ship, lenghtwise from middle & right side is called STARBOARD (Green lght) & left side is called PORTSIDE (Red light).
    2) Floor: DECK
    3) Wall: BULKHEAD
    4) Roof: DECKHEAD
    5) Kitchen: GALLEY
    6) Control room of Ship: NAVIGATION BRIDGE or commonly just BRIDGE
    7) Top deck of Ship: MONKEY ISLAND (here you will found a mast that mostly looks like Christmas Tree, & so its called as it houses all major navigation lights. All radars antenna etc are also fitted here only)
    8) Front part of Ship: FOC'SLE (FORECASTLE) it also houses ANCHORS
    9) Rear part of Ship: POOP DECK

Capt. Peter, Pls add things that I may have missed.

Engine Control Room: Situated inside the engine room and basically houses the Engine monitoring and control equipment.

Cargo Control Room: Has the controls for the cargo pumps, valves and monitoring equipment for the cargo tank levels. This is specific to tankers.

    Cabin: Bedroom

    Alleyway: Passage inside the accomodation.

Bunkers: Fuel (HFO: heavy fuel oil, MGO: Marine gasoil )

A LNG carrier (Surveyed for its last voyage)

I arrived on the ship by late evening & complete the ship inspection within same night as I had further inspections lined for next day.
All pics are taken during night time, so kindly excuse the quality.
