Okay, I didn't know which thread to post this into, but I hope moderators do so, where they feel it would be appropriate..
so the story:
I was just waiting in the car talking on the phone so had my ice in standby, just pressed some random buttons (fidgety fingers).
I got into a setting in my hu which was SPEAKER SELECTION..
well haven't seen it before, so I guess I thought I try to change it..
all around it had 4 settings:
OFF , 5/4 , 6x9 , OEM..
So I thought I shall switch it to OEM and see..
To my surprise, the sound started becoming more vocalish and the midbass stopped hitting hard, instead it was a very warm kind of music (the track was a country rock genre) It was so amazing..
So excited to change it again, I started hitting the combinations I did before, after a while found out when the HU is in standby mode just pressing the rotary knob, I arrived at that menu..
so time came to select 6x9.
the sound became with more bass and more treble, but the vocal effect seemed to have disappeared..
so unhappy, it was time to change to 5/4..
this setting completely blew me away, It was like the soundstage just got pulled up front, unlike the usual surround type I have, It was like the whole imaging got pulled up the front, sound was more vocal, not sharp, like it happens to be when at high volumes, midbass was performing like it should..
I was swept away by this..
but still to reconfirm, I tried switching back to OFF..
and the magic disappeared... So quickly switched back to 5/4 and fell in love with my ICe all over again..
Moral of the story : good to have fidgety fingers..
Please try this at home, It can push you into a world of difference..
now logically speaking : I think this employs some kind of response flattening, for common speaker types in order to get the best out of them..
