Initial ownership report of pre owned safari lx 4x4 2006 3L

Dear all would like to share my experience...
thank you all for the suggestion and informations...

Bought the vehicle on 9th july 2011 and clocked around 3200 KM till date...
here ia my experiences....
After getting the vehicle..straightaway went to a car accessory shop in bannerghatta road(Favara car fittings known guy for the last 5 years) and did the following things...
Reverse camera and screen
2 tweeters and servicing of the old speakers
auto cop remote locking
art leather seat cover including door panels....
total cost around 26 k...
after this the battery drained out..and on inspection came to know that battery is nearing its end(old one was a 2008 make)...so got a new exide battery..5.5 k
next went to concorde motors hosur road...
and did the following things
clutch over haul-14k
all other small niggles
engine bedding replacement
shock bush replasement
changed all the oils
and the total bill was around 34k
shall scan the bill and upload later
works pending
power steering is tight when turning towards left compared to right
rattles rattles...dont care i was prepared for that and used to FIL's 99 sierra turbo
on the recent trip to kerala...the check engine light came after 450 kms of driving...
get into a TASS service centre on the way somewhere in a place called perinthalmanna ...
they couldnt identify the issue and by the time the check engine light went off
the same thing happened while returning from kerala...after around 500kms of drive..
next day morning no issues.....assuming this is something to do with the temperature sensor ...
but until something is broken i am not gonna fix it...
major trips done yet..

back through the same way..

tried 4H and 4L in ooty through some slush and on wet grass hills I am happy since i am not a serious off roader no concerns
Also the tyres and Bridgestone duelerr HT with around 50% wear.
Overall i am happy with the vehicle...though i am having a feeling insecurity with the vehicle[ prejudice.] especially when travelling with family .(my family consists of wife and two kids 2yrs and 5 months old and we go most of the places together even for night fishing to remote places)
if the vehicle gives up any where in between i will be in big trouble...

the check engine light came after 450 kms of driving.....assuming this is something to do with the temperature sensor ...

This seems to be a common problem with the Safari and is attributed to excessive carbon/soot deposit in the catcon. The remedy is to rev the engine to 3k rpm for about 30 secs, with the car in neutral gear and engine temp at optimum level. Do this couple of times, and it should help.

Also the tyres and Bridgestone duelerr HT with around 50% wear.

A 4x4 certainly needs All Terrain shoes...think about the Yokohama Geolander AT.

the check engine light came after 450 kms of driving...

I also got check engine light within first 1000 KMs, and it went off after 10-15 minutes. This thing kept happening for 2-3 Hrs. I took my truck to TASS and Service Adviser told me, if “check engine light” comes without any loss of Power, it is normally due to inferior quality of diesel filled.

After that Incident, I only fill diesel from company owned petrol pumps.

But, I still face this problem occasionally, especially when I am traveling out of station. Last time, I went to Punjab for a week and filled diesel from one of the local Pumps and just driving after 2 KM “check engine light” came.

Now, I always keep a bottle of “Diesel Fuel Additive” in my car in case traveling out of station. It comes really handy in these situations.

Sorry dint update about the FE...
max 12.09 and min 9.4 yet..i am calm driver until and unless provoked..
top speed achieved 155kph(felt a little bit power is left dint try since was not confident about the braking part of the vehicle) dont know whether the odo is accurate or not..
I see RPM surging sometimes when starting the car for the first time

by the way where can i get “Diesel Fuel Additive” remember reading about some fuel additive brought by Hrag from chennai...doesnt remember the name exactly.

You can use "System D" with is easily available at most of the petrol pumps or Car accessories shops. I use "STP Diesel Fuel Treatment" once every 2500 Kms.
