Many people are buying old Jeeps and restoring them . What are the documents required to make them road friendly and what s the validity for these?
Like , Do we need a Fitness Certificate ? Whats the time period that a FC is valid for ?
Yes, you will need a FC to make your vehicle road legal. For private vehicles, FC is issued for 15 years when the vehicle is bought brand new and then renewed for 5 years thereafter depending on how 'fit' your vehicle is deemed.
One of the requirements to obtain a FC for an old vehicle is a valid PUC certificate. You will also need to pay a fee labelled 'green tax' to obtain the FC. this is about all I currently know. Rest is left to the gurus!!

2. Insurance (people go for 3rd party in most of the cases)

4. and a FC given by the local RTO for the period of 5 years as most of them will be 15-20 years old
If the vehicle is in running condition you will get all above documents from previous owner (sometimes insurance will be missing)
Real pain is when you are going for army auctioned Jeeps/Gypsies.. tagging Nithin as he will be able to give you complete detail
If you can't drive thru it, drive over it....

I bought a 2000 MM 550XD Ex-Army Vehicle and got it registered it Chennai last July 2010. I paid a life time tax which is valid till 2025 and FC is also valid till 2025, ie., FC is valid for 15 years. So as new as any other vehicle
