Renault Launches Pulse At Rs. 5.77 Lakhs

Hormazd has tweeted that Renault are going to showcase 'Pulse' on 29th October and the launch is expected to be in Jan/Feb 2012.

Wonder if this is just 'Modus' re-branded or a different vehicle.

    Source : Autocar India.

Renault is all-set to unveil the Pulse compact car for India, on 29th October 2011.
The Pulse (codename: B58) will be the French car maker’s third offering in six months; the Fluence saloon and Koleos SUV being the earlier two.
The Pulse is based on Renault-Nissan alliance’s V-platform that also underpins Nissan’s Micra hatchback and Sunny saloon and will be built at Renault-Nissan’s Chennai plant alongside the Micra.
The Pulse’s dimensions will be near-identical to the Micra and likewise should weigh less than a tonne which will reap huge dividends in the terms of fuel. While the two cars will share many components including engines namely the 1.2 litre petrol and the 1.5 litre diesel, the Pulse will be easily identifiable as a Renault and willlook different from the Micra. The nose, headlights and grill will be very different and so will the shape of the rear hatch and tail lights included However, the two cars could share the dashboard design as tooling for a new dashboard entails considerable expense.
Apart from the Micra itself, the Pulse will compete with the likes of the Maruti Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Honda Brio and Maruti Swift and will be priced around Rs 4-5 lakh.

This is been in new for more than a month now...Renault is associated with formula 1 for a long time and they want to show case this car at the grand Prix launch.

This will be based on the Nissan V platform and it will carry the same Nissan 1.2 Petrol and 1.5 dCi engines.

Renault Modus test mules were spotted multiple times, there were news that this would be Renault's next Indian launch, however there were also speculation that this was an usual international testing by Renault to understand their product better.

We might see a re-branded Modus or a new product Let's wait till 29th

camchennai, after 29th if it's the re-branded 'MODUS' then pls merge this post with the 'MODUS' thread. I also suspect that it will be the 'MODUS'. But why the name 'Pulse', they could have retained 'MODUS'.

Some other company in India might own that name so they are opting out for some other name.....Nissan did the same way for Sunny, in US its called Versa and since MSIL own Versa they named it as Sunny

If they can price both the diesel and petrol variants a little lower than the MICRA then MODUS/PULSE will have great potential. Anyway Renaul seems to be on fast track . 5 cars in 2 years!!

IIRC Renault along with Nissan is worlds 3rd largest manufacturer and to stay on this spot they have to explore Indian market....already they are very late...hatch back is the right product to expand and to keep up their image they planned for a top down approach....now they will bring in more models

Carwale reports, Pulse will be positioned above the Micra and more as a premium offering. As a result the Pulse will cost a bit more. It will however come with a lot of bells and whistles. It will have driver and passenger airbags and ABS for safety, and comfort and convenience features like climate control, keyless entry and start, and steering mounted controls among others.

Also Pulse is a all-new small car designed with inputs from Renault’s designers at the Mumbai studio.

Renault small car Pulse unveiled| Zigwheels.com

Looks like the Pulse is nothing but the Micra It's all the same masala dosa.

While news of a small car from Renault had been doing rounds, and had even been confirmed by the manufacturer itself, many had expected this car to be on the lines of the Modus or the Clio - both established brands in the European city-hatch space. The car for India however will be neither of the two, but will be called the Pulse and will share a majority of its parts with partner Nissan's Micra hatch.

Looking at how the hatch market has taken a sudden liking to diesels, the car will be launched at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi with the 1.5-litre dCi engine. The mill has been seen previously on the Micra, Fluence and Nissan's recently launched Sunny sedan. While the focus will be on this variant, the petrol option is not being ruled out, and will be the nice and torquey three-pot 1.2 litre engine, again from the Micra.

So how will the Pulse stand out from the crowd? We could say quirky French styling, but Renault would be looking at premium positioning to give the car a different spin. While the size and space of the car would still be Micra-ish, the car is expected to come loaded with features to the gills, and will be aimed at affluent small urban buyers - much like the Honda Jazz when it was introduced. We're pegging the pricing to lie higher than the Micra, in ranging between Rs 6-8 lakh across petrol and diesel variants, but we'll have to wait until the Expo to actually decode Renault's gameplan with the Pulse.

This certainly seems like a smart strategy for new solo entrant Renault, still in the process of ramping up both its production facilities to be able to handle the demands of the Indian car space, and also create enough dealerships and service outlets to allow the brand to thrive. Creating a niche in the crowded premium hatch space based on design, price and positioning while still keeping the logistics simple with the Micra piggyback may not create great numbers in sales, but should help the marque make its presence in the country more concrete. Watch this space for more details on the forthcoming car!

Don't know what is the strategy behind this ...

Micra is wonderful car and it is selling in good numbers, what Nissan needs to do is add more dealership so that their product reaches every part of India, instead they are re-branding it as Pulse under Renault brand which again has very less dealership!!! So far Renault-Nissan approach towards India was very smart however now it looks like otherwise. Now Renault cannot price this car less than Micra as it would earn them low cost tag which they want to get rid off!!

Modus or Clios would have been an better option rather than this re-branding

This is the strategy. Renault Pulse and Nissan Micra meeting each other. They might have thought the Indians are fools. Add a moustache or a mole to the Hero's face then you get double action.
