Dad's Dilemma : Which Luxury Saloon? Edit : Bought Mercedes Benz C200 (W205)

My Dad's Planning to replace the Verna with a luxury sedan. He's adamant driving a Sedan only hence, SUV and Crossovers are not to be considered.
Budget is between 15-20 lacs. Running will be not more than 10,000 kms a year (something between a daily drive and seldom drive).

Some Points considered while choosing :

      1. Car will be self driven.
      2. Length and parking space are not a problem.
      3. Dad doesn't have an experience with automatics. We brothers believe in Manual tranny as the drive is much involving and spirited. No Automatics!
      4. Running and Maintenance costs should reasonable and pocket friendly.
      5. Space for accommodating 5 for long journeys comfortably.
      6. Reliability.
      7. Acquisition will be before March 2012 as booking may take a month or so. What are the cons of buying a 2011 manufactured car?
      8. Promising launches of early 2012 are also to be considered.
      9. On-Road Price will be steeply less as the car will be bought and registered in Jharkhand and will be used in Chattisgarh.

      Options Considered as per preference:

      1. Skoda Superb 1.8TSi MT
      2. Volkswagen Jetta 2.0TD Highline MT
      3. Chevrolet Cruze LTZ MT
      4. Volkswagen Passat 2.0TD Trendline
      5. Honda Accord 2.4 MT

      Please suggest fellow petrolheads.

Laura TSi - Brilliant car. Not as loaded with features as some of the other cars you have listed. But engine is nice, so is handling. What you must look out for is the Skoda A.S.S.

Jetta - IMO, the car you must buy. Highline comes loaded, build quality is excellent, engine is quite nice & it handles well too. Service costs maybe a little more than the Cruze.

Cruze - I almost bought the Jetta instead. Interior plastic quality not so great. Rear seats are cramped. New model release date is indefinite. For your dad I still think Jetta is the better choice.

Passat - Isn't it way out of budget? If your looking at the Passat, why miss the Superb?

Accord - Seriously? I would not even consider it. So so interiors, guzzles gas, outdated looks.

I think you misread the Superb with Laura. Superb is our first preference.
Laura TSi is not considered because it lacks in features. Laura vRS has all the bells and whistles but might have a stiff ride and low on rear legroom.
Which has better rear legroom Cruze or Laura?

      This is in consideration.

Superb 1.8 TSI MT costs 18.7 lacs ex showroom and Passat Trendline MT 2.0TD costs 20.8 ex showroom. Passat is slightly out of budget as the onroad price will be around 21.9-22.3l.
      Which will be sensible?

Ah! Sorry I read it as Laura instead of the Superb.

If you can afford the Passat, go for it eyes closed. I would buy it over the Superb specially given the Skoda horror stories I keep hearing.

And Cruze easily has the worst leg room among it's class.

doesn't the 2011 Passat comes only in AT?..I think the MT has been discontinued for the current model.

I would suggest Superb.. as name says its superb car to drive around and sometimes to relax at back seat(uncomparable rear leg room)..

      plus superb looks/feels more expensive..

EDIT: was going thru superb website and got to know that it has an umbrella inside the rear door and a "Lounge Step"

My pick would be the Passat if you can stretch a little, just amazing!

Also, idk when they're expected but hopefully soon; the new Camry and the new Sonata?

Yes the Passat comes only in AT model. Also there is no middle variant.

Also you did not mention whether you would go for Petrol or Diesel car.

Their annual drive is about 10K km as stated, and since he's considering the Accord and Passat both, I guess petrol or diesel both suits their bill.
