    Chinese SUV's are here!!!

Our friends at GoaOnWheels have managed to snag an on-test Great Wall Haval H5 SUV, doing the testing rounds somewhere in the National Capital Region(NCR).

Punjab based ICML Motors, well known for its Sonalika range of tractors will bring the Haval H5 SUV into India sometime later this year, in line with its earlier announcement of launching an SUV to take on the hot selling Mahindra XUv500. The Haval H5 will be a five seater and will come in both 4X2 and 4X4 variants. Apart from the Haval H5 SUV, ICML also plans to bring a pick up truck to the Indian market, in the form of the Great Wall Wingle Pick Up Truck. This pick up might be positioned to take on the likes of the Tata Xenon XT and the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway.

The Wingle pick up truck is also expected to get the same 2 liter common rail diesel engine that the Haval H5 SUV features. This engine outputs a peak power of 150 Bhp and a peak torque of 310 Nm. Like the Haval H5, the Wingle pick up is sold in markets across the world, ranging from South Africa to Australia. ICML Both the Haval H5 SUV and the Wingle pick up truck are currently being tested in India. ICML plans to form a joint venture with Great Wall Motors of China to make and sell these vehicles in the Indian market.

this is just the beginning. a wave of chinese automobiles are set to come in. will it be hatchbacks next? you can never say. esp with ICML and Premier having set the ball rolling. I'm sure Hindustan Motors is thinking on those lines and so will Ashok Leyland.

The pick up truck looks quite good and I guess it also has a 4x4 version.

Hope they all have a credible service setup to backup this wave.

Haval H5 SUV looks like a copy of some Mazda SUV/X-over which I happened to rent once but unable to remember the name now. The Mazda one was extremely good though.

Firstly, a tractor-maker marketing an SUV. Secondly, the made-in-China tag. I don't know. Depends on the pricing strategy and the target market, I guess. But I really doubt they can take on the XUV500.

Overtaking XUV500 is mere tough and its not possible. Mahindra has been stabilized in their sales.

Guess these chinese toys need to attract as many as customers by their pricing, looks and power. And we always target on mileage, so that also needs to be considered. Once this all set, then they are ON and can complete with the XUV500, but will take long long time being said that car will be hitting roads by end of year, by then XUV500 would have sold a mass considering still 11months left. Lets see how things move on.

Well, Maruti Suzuki couldnt sell the Grand Vitara and the Kizashi for precisely similar reasons. Brand image. Nothing wrong with the products. Just the badge.

Renault has been smart and did away with the Logan and hence washed their hands-off the taxi-maker image before entering the fray with their recent launches. Good move.

Directly pitted against the XUV500, this doesn't stand a chance.

Mahindra too was a tractor manufacturer. They still are and until they partnered with AVL, their engines were tractor derivatives!

Well, frankly speaking, I was not aware of that But that isnt the point. The point is Sonalika taking on the XUV500 with a Chinese SUV. Now thats way too ambitious and a pipe dream at this stage, isnt it?
