I dont remember, off the top of my head the speeds that correlate with the rpm for the swift. I dont really pay much attention to what speed i'm doing. rpm is all I look at
      Will check and tell you.
Am waiting for a cheap OBD scanner that will turn up on the 20th of this month. if that reads engine data, then we have a solution to getting the rpm readings even in an LDi,
otherwise you'll have to rely on the good ol speedo. :-|

Jus dont let the engine to lug or over rev in each gear.Listen to the engine noise. It needs some practice though.

Don take it in the wrong sense buddy but a good driver will always know when to upshift or down shift wihout looking at the speedometer or tachometer.I keep my eyes on the meter only during my mad driving.During normal driving i don look at the meters for gear change. i know when to up shift or downshift. And i m saying this because i also drive a M800 which does not have a tacho..

Trying to accelerate while in lag.
(like a traffic light grand prix, for eg )
      we'll catch them in 3rd
so be nice to your clutch
but that will murder your in city FE.
      then ZOOOOOOM
Giving the car a good workout once a week seems to keep it happy.

I'm no Guru, but this article needed to be written, and someone had to do it

Hey you've used way too many smileys. I may be forced to give you an infraction ..

super awesome thread mate.one of the best on Gearheads. very very informative. most people don't know all this and slam the A pedal to get out of the lag asap. I believe all new gen diesel drivers should read this.

      For the swift,
      5th gear, 2000rpm is 80kmph, 3000rpm is 120kmph
Which means ideal cruising speed is around 100kmph.
I'd tried all the other gears. Yesterday, but have forgotten all the numbers
so, the following numbers need to be double checked.
      3000rpm in 4th is 100kmph
      2000 in 4th is 60 i think
      3rd gear is 40(2k) and 80(3k)
