    Lights dimming!!

Hi guys, noticed some dimming of head lights when i turned them on immediately after starting the car (while the HU is powering up) few days back..thought it must be due to the HU drawing more power as it was starting up. once the HU is powered (the JVC logo appears) the headlights turned bright. did'nt notice ny dimming while driving. Few days back went out of town and then i noticed that the head lights would be dimming intermittently (maybe it was'nt noticeable with in city driving). Maybe a case of faulty install?

Also once while cranking up the ignition it would'nt start, just a "tak" sound. turned it all the off and tried again and it fired..no recurrence of that problem since then..

But the light dimming problem is still there ...need pointers for (1) identifying the cause and (2) how to go about rectifying that problem coz it has me real worried that one day ill get stuck with a dead battery coz maybe my system is drawing more power and the battery is not charging adequately..

the first place you need to check is your battery terminals and clamps Caesar. see if they are clean or there is a powdery deposit around them. either way, take the clamps off the terminals and polish them to a shine with some sandpaper. scrape a thin layer off your battery terminals too. connect everything back nice and tight and see how it goes.

how old is your car and or the battery ? if its older than 2 years, check for battery terminals, ground terminal needs special attention, you are sure to find some powdery deposit, wash off with water, let it dry and apply grease over it...

    do whatever 007 tells you..

    and viola dimming disappears..

actually, dont use water or grease. water might promote more corrosion. grease on the contact surfaces between the terminal and clamp might increase resistance. just use dry sandpaper to clean the surfaces. apply grease over the entire assembly *after* you connect everything and tighten them. if you can find some, use "Anabond 662" silicone grease. it is also called "dielectric grease" and that is what they use in the factory.

isnt this the same car where they skimped on weatherproofing to supposedly keep costs down? I wouldnt be surprised if they did the same to the wiring harness and the additional electrical load is not being supported.

FASS sprayed something on all the terminals/contacts, which turns blue. No washing, no greasing, just cleaning with sandpaper and cloth. I observed this when car went for free check-up in July/Aug (Monsoon Free Checkup) and again in Dec.

they all do the same thing: form a coating around the exposed metal so that it doesnt oxidize.

two months old and this already?? holy shit! then it must be a wire gauge problem and not a terminal problem.
