Question Need help on upgrade for Hero Honda Karizma

    Hello Gearheads,

I need your inputs in upgrading My 2004 Karizma.

I need your help in deciding good tyres for HH Karizma,

I Have heard that Pirelli Scorpion is the best suited, But I have also shortlisted Michelin M45, Michelin Sirac, Ceat Vertigo, Dunlop Geo Cruiser

Pirelli Scorpion : Good but wears out quickly. (Need more advice on this.)
Michelin m45 I feel is a little heavy for the bike, I definitely do not want to lose out acceleration and top end of the bike. I also understand that the m45 cannot be fit correctly with the chain guard.

Michelin Sirac- Have no clue about it. So any advice will be appreciated.

Ceat vertigo :I guess NO (Although its best suited for a Fiero)
Dunlop Geo Cruiser : Hmmm May be... but as the last option.(Starts wobbling once its starts wearing out.)

    anymore suggestions ??????

So thats about the tyre mystery.

Now moving onto ABS unit, I have googled so much to know if ABS works on Indian Bikes and heard that a few have worked. Here are a couple of links that may help us.

    http://www.goforkrp.com/index.php?la...e&Id=538704859

I have heard saferideabs is good, but Gearheads please advice me.

I intend to go only for Mechanical ABS units, any inputs in installing the ABS unit and contact info will be of much help.

    Now moving onto spark plugs.

I want to installl an NGK Iriduim Spark plug, Im not worried about drop in the mileage , but need a better and smoother ride. So Is installing NGK Iridium Spark plug any use ?
I also want to put on a spiral core which I feel enhances the current flow and smoothens the acceleration.

    Help!!!!!!!!!

Any reason why you are not attracted towards MRF? The MRF that I had on my 2004 pulsar lasted for about 7yrs+ (49k kms appx). Look into that MRF as well like zapper Q/Y or so.

    FYI:
I've recently changed to Ceat grip that cost me 1800.00 including tube. It has given a broad look, good grip and no skidding. I think that is VFM purchase. So far so good

M45 Need not require removal of chainguard. M45 is hands down the best available Tyre for a ZMA

Michelin Sirac- Have no clue about it. So any advice will be appreciated.
SIRAC is equally good as M45, but the tyre is heavy and there will a lack of acceleration

Ceat vertigo :I guess NO (Although its best suited for a Fiero)
Good only for dry tarmac and off roading

    anymore suggestions ??????
    Yes. Zapper Q.

Mechanical ABS just regulates the pressure on the calipers, without which, over a period of time you can manually do.

Iridium plugs adds to the performance of a vehicle. There wouldn't be drastic improvement in pick up and mileage, but yeah you will feel the difference.

Would suggest you to go for Dunlop Geo Cruiser... its a great tyre and serves well above all it does its job of providing excellent grip.

You could go for the mechanical abs in the front but i just use my fingers to kinda pulse the lever and it works just fine.

Ngk platinum and iridium that i used showed no much difference and i would rather buy the platinum as its providing just the same spark quality and being cheap i can change it as and when required.

IMHO the cable makes no difference whatsoever.

I would second that. My stock Dunlop Geo cruisers on my 12 year old LML Energy FX are still holding good inspite of cracks in the rubber. No issues with grip or stability.

    My recommendation would be:

    1) Michelin M45 if available
    2) Michelin Sirac 120 section
    3) Pirelli Sport Demon 110 section.

I have used Dunlop extensively on my P150...the initial ones (as long back as 2004) were decent. Off late I don't know whats the issue- but they have lost the grip quality that they used to have. To add not that great grip in wet conditions.

Michelin M45s all the way. IRCs are also good, but would recommend you for front tyre only.

You can go for NGK Iridiums, no problem with that, but why not try fiddling with the source itself, if you need some jaw-dropping performance!!!!

Hello Guys, Finally got my hands on the best avaiable tyre if you ask me. I managed to buy IRC tyres from one MR Deepak Gandhige in Basavanagudi. I must say it was a nice experience to buy from him. Tyres are very good and the grip is amazing. Installed a 3.00 18 front and 110/18 rear. Fits perfect and works great too.
If anyone would like his contact number please OPM me I shall send the contact details to you.

I would like to share an experience with you guys.
I had a peculiar problem with the bike. The engine used to shut down the moment I swithced on the indicators, horn or the front brake.
Then If I tried to start it again it would start absolutely fine. This left me perplexed and went stright to the mechanic who told me its a fault with the rectifier and changed the connection.
It worked and the bike stopped doing that again.
So if you guys find the same problem on a Karizma like that I suggest you to disconnect the front brake switch and disconnect the horn as well. It should work for sometime and then run to a mech to get this fixed ASAP.
