Is new Hyundai verna 1.4 crdi a good purchase decision ?

Guys is it a good choice to buy a 1.4 crdi new Verna .how is the performance compared with say sunny xl ? 1 relative is buying it as he is not very interested in gizmos he is ok with the base model as the price is also quite good ? Compared to 1.6 is it very bad he will be using in mostly in city what he just dosent want is a sluggish engine compared to the 1.6 crdi . Any help will be appreciated from experts and 1.4 crdi owners.

For City use I would suggest Nissan Sunny as the Renault engine has zero turbo lag, it will be boon to drive inside the city. Sunny offers acres of space mated with a brilliant engine, so if I were you I will pick up Sunny any day.

Ask your relative to do back to back test drive of both vehicle and decide.

Agree with Camchennai. Nothing is better than a test drive. Get it done first and then we can give suggestions if you relative is still confused.

    Hi Raja16,
The 1.6 CRDi is anything but sluggish. The engine really gets going after the first couple of oil changes and provided your not driving around for mileage all the time and do a few spirited runs, after the first 10 - 15k km, the car will start to pull from as low as 1500 or 1600 rpm. But yes, for city driving you will have to gear shift a lot, as compared to the 1.4 FGT CRDi which does duty on the i20 as well. It is more linear, easier to drive in the city, but is boring and lacks out right power for highway drives.
If you want a car that gives you better city driveability right from the outset, you can consider the vento.
    Catch me if you can.....
