Wink Renault Fluence Diesel E2 at last

My search for a sedan began a few months back and I was totally confused because i wasnt able to find that one car which fit my budget and needs, after reading umpteen number of reviews, comparisons, test driving of cars frm different segments and suggestions from car experts, i finally settled for the Renault Fluence E2.

I was driving a Honda for the last 4 years and totally loved the engine especially after it gave me a whopping mileage of 20 Kmpl on my road trip from Chennai to mysore and back, and not to forget the wonderful After Sales TVS Sundaram, Chennai offers. But now as the petrol cars are becoming difficult to run due to increasing fuel prices I was looking for:

      1) Diesel Sedan with a good mileage
      2) cars within the 12 lakh range segment C cars like the Sunny, Vento, Sx4, Fluidic, etc..
      3) Car with good handling at speeds of 100 to 120 kmph as i love road trips
      4) decent looks both interiors and exteriors

I had considered the following cars:

1.) Toyota Etios - Was totally turned off by the interiors of the cars, paying 9 odd lakhs and getting such interiors from a company like Toyota was a total disappointment to us.

2.) Nissan Sunny - Brilliant car but again the looks werent too appealing to us.

3.) Maruti Sx4 - Loved the car but not happy with the build quality felt like it had something missing.

4.) Hyundai Fluidic - Was totally amazed by the cars features and mileage for 11 Lakhs only diesel automatic in the segment. But when i took my cousins car on the Highway Chennai > Bangalore was very happy to have not rushed to book the car as its handling on the highway and speeds above 100 is pathetic. No offense to Hyundai Fans. its a perfect city car though but cannot be trusted on highways.

5.) Ford Fiesta - Brilliant Drivers Car in my opinion for the features it has but you would need to gamble with the After Sales Service. 12.86 Lakhs On road. Loads of complaints against Ford's Spare parts price and servicing.

6.) Skoda Rapid - Would give it a 9 out of 10 for the car of that segment and drive was brilliant. A perfect VFM (Value for Money). My only issue was the number of complaints on different forums about the After Sales Service of Skoda throughout India. Also a friend of mine who owns the car has a lot of issues with the Skoda Dealers / Service Personnel.

7.) VW Vento - A good car got things a person would need but over priced i feel. 12.59 Lakhs INR on road defintly made me think for no features in it.

8.) Renault Fluence - One of my friends working wit renault suggested why not just test drive the fluence since i was not able to finalize on anything in the prior segment and was already looking at settling for the vento paying 12.5. He said why not pay another 2 and go for a car in the segment. I decided to test drive the car and we totally loved it. Smooth engine, brilliant handling and mileage of 15 to 16 kmpl in the city (read in the reviews). I wasnt anyways looking for features like auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers etc. Though i havent heard much about After Sales Issues with Renault I took this decision of booking the car as we own a Mahindra Verito which runs the same engine and are really happy with it.

Booked my car on 30th of March 2012 and got my delivery only on 18th April due to some issues with the financial intermediaries involved. Completed 170 Kms today after just 3 days of taking delivery and a few points on the car :

1.) amazing cuts and curves making it a head turner for sure.

2.) great ride - suspensions and shocks are good and tough, doesnt feel like when u hit a pothole etc... Steering is amazing and pretty responsive

3.) Smooth gear box not crossed the 4th gear yet as i dont want to push the car too fast yet. pulls in 3rd gear at speed of 22 kmph, dont do this often but just did it once to see how well it pulls in higher gears.

4.) Turbo kicks in after 2000 rpm and a very quiet engine for it being a diesel one.

5.) Mielage showing 10.5 Kmpl hope it improves as time goes by.

Planning to go for a road trip end of april to coimbatore but some of diesel car owners suggest not to push the car yet as its a totally mechanical engine. My first diesel car so if you have any comments on this please let me know.

Will keep updating the thread. Hoping to hear from the other owners as well..

      Cheers guyz..

is there a drive in period? You sod rev it a lil once in way, that will help all the pistons to get a good workout. What u shd do is, not maintain a constant speed in any particular gear. I 've had all 3 diesel cars so far, never had any prob.....

Well i really dont know if there is a drive in period or anything but some of my relatives who own a diesel car have adviced against reving it too much and clocking high speeds for the first 1000 kms .. they said cause diesel engines are mechanical etc ... thanks for the advice though ...

Well i did call for a test drive and the dealers were least bit interested to send over their car. I called the dealer atleast 5 times and sent in 2 mails online... I felt that when a dealer is least bit interested to sell his product, how would he even manage to give me a good after sales...

      Congrats on the purchase.

And don't be afraid to push the car. Modern engines are bullet proof and don't need any running in. And you can drive in any gear as long as your RPMs aren't too low and you are not lugging the engine.

      And do read this thread.
