      Samsung S series smart phones

I currently own Samsung S2 Galaxy phone wherein off late i noticed that applications / Ending calls all take time, more like RAM is too slow..any suggestions / thoughts on what could be the reason for such slow speeds.

smarthere - You can use " The mobile phone thread " for asking your query.

#mods - Please move this thread to the mobile phone thread.

Also smarthere, seems that you have installed many applications with which the RAM is behaving very slow. Try to kill all apps using "Task Killer" App and see. If still the problem persist but apps automatically opening, then there is some serious error with regard to RAM.

Tagging few SII users for their attention towards your post and getting your issue resolved - Mi10, Gilead, yzfrj, sanjayc.

Its not the RAM. Its the OS developing bugs. I need to upgrade my S2 to official ICS or cyanogen mod myself. I keep getting the com.android.phone has stopped working error.

I'm guessing you should be with Android 2.3.3
Does applications alone lag or phone functions too ?
Do you have lot of apps installed ?

Have you tried a "cold" restart ? Does it improve things ?

AFAIK Android by design does not need a task killer, yes some phones will lag.
This is mostly because of some bugs (as already mentioned) lets not just blame it on the OS (You would if you are an Apple boy or an Dinosaur with a BB)
This is mostly due to poor integration by the Phone's UI to the base OS.

The other possible issue is fragmentation but that is not very likely.

      Sod off old man

      EDIT :

App killer does not (IMO) and might not always improve things.
Why ? read how memory is managed in Android, that will give some answers.

      BTW I'm not a S2 user. I use HTC

optimus_prime : are you getting error for everything or some apps alone. I've seen it but that was when I tried something rather idiotic (on purpose tried something that is not compatible and as expected error galore). Anyway this might be due to something you have recently installed.
This has also happened to a friend who tried to overclock the CPU to the max in the process corrupting some OS files

yzfrj - Yes sorry for generalizing. I am on 2.3.3 and I believe this issue is found mainly on touchwiz integrated with android if I'm not wrong or is it across other android based phones? My phone never crashes, it is not slow and I dont have too many apps installed. I have never had issues with performance. Only issue is that now and then when a call comes screen blanks out and cal wont log in the register. Then the error pops up, force close, phone loses signal, and then signal comes back in a few seconds. Not tried a cold restart or anything. Now and then the sms app does not display the sms, so I know next call, signal will go. I turn flight mode on, then off, android.phone force closes, then signal comes back.

yes, it happens in all android phones, to get back to normal, remove all apps, backup , restore factory settings..

for users who upgrade often have custom recovery, wipe dalvik cache.. alternatively an upgrade or changeover of rom will bring the phone back to normal..

I've got tired of this, so Im on a roll to buy a windows phone..

edit : oh yess ,its not that its because its android it does this other o/s might not do something like this (symbian s60 did worse)..

Its the people to blame, we want phones (the devices meant to keep us in communication with each other using RF) to do more than that, become a media player, game station, gps guide and what not, so many requirements on a piece of plastic... hmm any phone can go wrong..

edit 2 : Off Topic :aren't there rumors that RIM is gonna close down ?

+1. isn't the in-built process manager good enough to perform the task killing operation??

      Yes i am with 2.3.3
      Both aplications and phone lag
Around 5-10 applications have been installed
      Cold start doesn't really help..
Not sure what needs to be done to improve the performace, i have not yet started thinking of changing my phone yet. hoping we have a solution soon to avoid me frm taking this drastic decision.
