Chinese parts used in automobiles in India.

      Hi,

One of my close friends is considering buying an Innova/ForceOne/Aria/Scorpio. He is really floored by Force One owing to its rugged looks and space. But when he heard that many of its parts are chinese made, he is a bit reluctant to go for it. I strongly believe that there are many cars on Indian roads that use chinese parts. Does anyone have any idea what all major cars use chinese parts for its major components?

      Thank you.

I hope you are aware that Force One is a licensed version of an Chinese SUV so you can expect some level of part sharing with its Chinese counterpart.

Usually plastic components will be Chinese made, again depends upon the manufacturer. If you consider Toyota, most of it would be from Thailand.

Ask your friend to have a good look at the fit and finish and see if he is still floored!!!
I took a detailed TD a while back and the vehicle can be termed rudimentary at best. The engine feels good but the interiors and the refinement are a HUGE let down. Calling it poor quality would be an understatement!!!

To put things into perspective, a Premier Rio (another Chinese contraption) has far better interiors than Force One.

      thats horrifying

on a another note, it doesn't matter where the parts are sourced from, gauging the quality of a product on the basis of the country of its origin is being somewhat near sighted, regardless of where a product is made, if it is built to specs, it will perform as per them

chinese products in india have been branded as poor quality goods because our vendors and suppliers opt for them, there are all sorts of qualities of a particular product available in china, they make it as per requirement, i.e us grade, uk grade, indian grade, the problem is that our suppliers want the product to be as cheap as possible disregarding quality as a consequence, our suppliers are to blame, not their products

If you know the procurement insights of companies like GM, SUZUKI etc you will soon come to know that many parts are procured from china.

A simple example is that the engine block of GM cars being assembled in India comes from a foundry in CHINA.

Dont think all chinese things are bad. There is simple funda in china " You get what you pay for" China produces extremely good quality as well as extremely bad quality depending on the price.

i'd just like to add a bit to your sentence, where they have excelled is actually producing good quality at a nominal price because of their economies of scale, and also where they have economised is investing in their manufacturing practices(which we sadly haven't) to make them more cost efficient

". . . . if it is built to specs, . . ." - my point is - specifications decided by whom? GM, Intel, etc or by any Chinese company itself?

Well....IMO...the factory fitted electronic components/gadgets in cars these days are sourced from China too. This doesn't make them inferior in quality i suppose....it all depends on the car manufacturers...what kind of quality they are looking for.

But, I've never seen any major components Chinese made in cars ive owned...either made in India, japan, Germany, Korea, thailand.

when a product is made on large scale and is to be developed for a car in this case, i am sure gm or whichever car company is concerned will have a say in the kind of material that is used, if its a plastic shroud, what material is it to be made of polypropylene, co-polymer, the options are there, but its the company which decides how much that product should cost hence indirectly influencing the quality of the product

apple also sources its products from china, the only thing is apple have made sure that their quality control is absolutely rigid and is not compromised in any of their products
