      Honda City Rev limiter

Guys, i noticed something peculiar today. i was just revving my Honda City (Latest model) in neutral and what i found was that there seems to be a rev limiter around 5000rpm in Neutral. This kind of behavior is not exhibited in gears though.

Is there really a rev limiter or something is faulty in my car?

Do you have automatic Honda City or manual .. If you have A/T Honda city . you will face this issue
Same happened with my Honda civic A/T . System ECU stop REV above 5000RPM

Could be a safety cut off to prevent hitting the rev limiter when there is no load on the engine. Most of the cars I've seen have just one rev-limiter, a fuel/ignition cut-off whether on/no load.

Either ways, it's never a good practice to hit the rev limiter on any engine in neutral. Under load I think the rev limiter on the ANHC is at 7000 RPM IIRC.

      Well it's not automatic.

Also I'm feeling that the car is not fast enough so was just checking and it cut off around 4500-5000.

Wanted to check if it's indeed a rev limiter or something else.

CAI coming up soon and it's certainly not rev free like fiat 1.6 GTX

this is the theory, although i maybe wrong, the vtec needs two signals for engagement, one from the crank position sensor/ignitor(indicating engine speed), and oil pressure sensor to make sure that vtec can engage, on load oil pressure is much higher than no load, so vtec won't engage, and since there is no low cam fuel map past vtec engagement point the ecu probably cuts the fuel or ignition, its a safety feature

Will be meeting up with heartstealer mostly today! Will try it out on his ANHC and let you know if it does cut off at 5000 in neutral.

The theory does make sense. But IIRC, the i-Vtec in the Civic is implemented differently. As in the VTEC kicks in at low revs and the VTEC turns off at high revs and moves to a "hot cam" profile.

      More here.

I wonder if the same technology is implemented in the ANHC as well?
