Question Tyre Upgrade for Maruit Suzuki SX4 Vxi ..

      Brothers,

I'm getting a SX4 Vxi this week and want to upgrade the tyres to accommodate 16" Alloys. SX4 Vxi's have 15" Inch tyres (right?) I have decided on the Alloys but have no clue on the upgrade path. Which are the best tyres i can get? Would getting 16" for the Vxi cause a performance drop? What are the things i should be concerned about?

      Thanks

The tyre sizes for the Maruti Suzuki SX4 variants are:

      • Sx4 Vxi - Stock 195/65 R15
      • Sx4 Zxi - Stock 205/60 R16

Can i use the tyre sizes of the Zxi variant (Since it's a 16") for my Vxi tyre upgrade?

Shucks Can't seem to get a clear answer anywhere. Would i have to install Hubcentric Rings too? (How do i make sure i get the right size for the rings?) Waiting for suggestions from the Guru's!

ghstridr Sizing hub centric rings is pretty simple - The hub ring's outer diameter should be the new alloy's wheel hub bore. The hub ring's inner diameter should be the vehicle hub size.

And I am not sure who makes these things in your locality. Or you could order one off the internet. Or you could get a local lathe to do one for you in soft aluminium. Take care to make it in a brittle soft metal/material so that you can take it off when required!

But, getting a perfect fit with after market alloys is going to be very tough. Almost always, you will end up with wobbly wheels. Suggest you only go for OE alloys, if they are available in 16 inch? If you cant find them, find a new alloy wheel which has the same hub diameter and offset as the original wheel. Only if the above two are not options available for you, think of other size alloys and hub centric rings.

Thank you tadukuttan, If you would have noticed my two posts earlier. Can i fit the Zxi's alloys into Vxi's? And if I'm getting after market 16" Alloys can i use the Zxi's tyre size to suit them better?

Sorry Tadu, I agree with soft metal, but why should it be brittle? Brittle metals tend to break/fracture easily during impacts.

Actually that is the idea. So that you can give it a whack and break it, to take it out.

Having said that, high speed driving does deform the soft aluminum. Have been wanting to try the rings out in something like 6061 aluminium alloy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Do you think it is a good idea? What do you think would be the best material for this?

Definitely its a better idea considering its strength, however its difficult to source this material in the required size. You may have to get the raw material forged to the required sizes which will be little expensive.

16" tyres are more costly than 15". 195/65/15 Tyres cost b/w 4500 to 6000 while 16" tyres cost above 8000 except for Acelere and JK. If you are going for 16" tyres, it's better to buy 205/55 R16 than 205/60 R16. You have more options if you choose 55 profiles and 205/55 R16 gives less change in overall diameter. Laura ambition tyre size is same as SX4 vxi while Elegance version's tyre size is 205/55 R16.

      205/55 R16 Tyres : Primacy LC,acelere ,Potenza G-III,CPC2, Yokohama ar01 A Drive, S drive,Advan Sport V103,AVS DB

      205/60 R16 Tyres: Primacy LC,CPC2, Acelere, Yokohama ES501, Potenza G3 .

This website gives a good idea about Prices and availability of tyres http://www.changemytyre.com/
