      Hyundai Verna ReICEd

Our 2008 Hyundai Verna CRDI SX has clocked around 83,000 kms and still running strong. About a year ago, due to fall in performance we planned to replace it but further the culprit, the faulty turbo was caught and was replaced. The Beast regained its power and we shelved the plans to sell it.
Not getting further OT, initially the Car came with stock OE Speakers and two Tweeters for the Front Stage. Headunit was factory fitted Kenwood 4070 which had SRS WOW effects. Overall SQ was shit! Headunit was okay but the speakers were crap.

Late 2010 the ICE bug bit me and with limited knowledge I planned to ICE the Verna with these Equipments :

The Speakers were decent but the Desi Alpine was an epic fail. SQ was pathetic, highs were screechy and the system had an unbearable Alternator whine. After 5-6 days, the Desi Alpine was replaced with JBL S644 amp and Boss wiring was replaced with Scosche E2 Kit. The updated system still lacked the proper tuning due lack of skills of the installer.

Further, after 3 months the car was de-iced, reverted to stock and all the equipments were sacrificed for the Figo's Setup : http://gearheads.in/showthread.php?6...t-for-great-SQ

I plan to reICE the Verna with the aim of having a high impact with the least budget possible. Nope, its not going to be entry level but a notch below moderate setup with entry level kit budget. This is also aimed to be an experimental setup. Lets see how it goes...

My requirement was an entry level 4ch amp with good SQ. Was looking for a used Focal Solid 4, budget was sub-8k.
Had been keeping an eye on the classifieds for long but found no luck. Then, memory struck me that sushantV had upgraded from this amp. Finalized the deal with immediate communication and picked this beauty from him on my recent trip to Delhi. Many thanks to Monsieur sushantV for passing this Super VFM Amp and being kind enough to travel all the way from Gurgaon to Delhi Cantonment to deliver it. One can see the condition from the pics, how well he has used and maintained the amp.
Got this amp at almost half of the proposed 8k budget. Making me to splurge the saved amount better on the Sub stage and Head Unit and raising the Performance to Price ratio.
About this amp, this is the old-school baap among the entry level amps. Every user or listener swears by its versatility and performance.

Plethora of tuning options with variable low-pass and high-pass electronic crossovers for the A and B channels.

Hats off to the guy who has maintained this ageless beauty to this extent (absolutely brand new). I feel ashamed after looking at this 8401 and then looking at mine.

But eventually what matters is what lies beneath the casing. Its a pure monster waving at the very top of 'entry level amplifiers'.

For now the amp will be used in Trimod operation. A monoblock may be added at a later stage according to the necessity.

      JL Audio XR-650 CSi

The front stage for this setup has been carried over from Figo's setup. This one is surely the most bang for the buck equipment in my setup. Been used for around 10 months, paired, tested, used with three amps, still sounding sweet. I really wanted to retain these components even after upgrading the Figo's front stage to Profi Kick and L1v2 combo. Infact, the whole idea for this project was conceived to utilize these JL components. The best thing I liked about these components is the Midbass : tight, responsive, high on impact and keeps the imaging & staging up. Lets see how it performs with Kenwood 8401.

The tweeters use a neodymium magnet and are ferrofluid-cooled. They are 1" (25mm) aluminum dome with a synthetic rubber surround that damps unwanted ringing for smooth, non-fatiguing output.
